Should I Be Worried?

Oh wow, that sounds serious, do you think she has that? How fast will she deteriorate if she does? Are there any external signs I should be looking for?

I wouldn't panic.
If she not looking distressed or ill.
But I would keep an eye on her for going to the toilet.
I would get her checked over if she hasn't been to the toilet in aday.
Check feces and urine for blood, any discharges.

Okay. When she defecated nothing contained blood. By checked up do you mean having a vet come over, or what? I can't picture taking her to the vet, since the kits would need to be fed and kept warm while she's gone and I think that might be too traumatic.

Just give the shelter a call and tell them that she hasn't been to the toilet in aday and they will advise you what to do and look for.

Alright, if she hasn't defecated by tommorow morning I'll give a professional fosterer (not the best way to describe it) a call. :good: Thanks a lot for the help!

If had any kind of prolapse you would know it. Something would be very obviously wrong and she would be in great pain. Plus prolapses usually have some physical evidence i.e. big bumps, large swelling etc. I wouldnt worry about a prolapse.

Drew

p.s. i just noticed that a uterine rupture was referenced. This is way more likely to happen, as opposed to an actual prolapse. Not as threatening but needs to be looked at if one suspects any kind of rupture occured.

good luck!

Could anybody give me more information about uterine ruptures? What do you guys think I should do right now, take some action or wait if something else happens? I'm hoping it's just minor constipation triggered by stress and sudden dietary change, and should dissappear on it's own.

If she is acting normal and is still going to the bathroom and doesnt seem to be in pain i would see how she feels is a day or two IMO. But just go with your gut, if you feel something is really wrong then by all means take care of her.
Good luck and keep us updated.

She pooed healthily tonight at about 10:30, though she seems to have a bit small of a litterbox... :S Right now we're keeping her in a kennel until the kits get older, so she really can't have a big old one...

I would consider taking her to the vets still just to be sure - the kittens will be fine without food for an hour or two (just very hungy when their mom returns ;) ). Make sure the kittens have a nice warm bed in their pen and if possible put a microwave heat pad in there.

** If you do put a heat pad in make sure it is in a pillow case and the pillow case is knotted so the kittens can not get into direct contact with the heat pad **

^^^Good idea :good:

I'm just going with my gut on this one... Currently everything is fine but if I see any different symptoms I'll be sure to call. Only problem is she's not my cat and I don't exactly know if the shelter wants me to run to the vet every time there is anything abnormal. After all, I don't know what the personality of this cat is so for all I know this could be normal, though I have a feeling it was just constipation because she seems to be acting and urinating normal.
