I've got a 4 foot Rena Tank which I've had for 2/3 years now which I've just broken down as I'm having an extension and need to move the tank while this is being done. Looking to re-establish the tank in the summer and so am putting together a shopping list of things I could buy to improve the tank with the aim to buy them bit by bit over coming months so I don't get a massive bill when it comes to setting up the tank again. I previously kept S American cichlids in the tank (which have been rehomed) but have agreed with my kids that it will be a big community tank with their choice of fish (although I've got my eye on a couple of nice Severums as the centre piece of the tank).
The current equipment I've got on the tank is:
-Two filters Rena XP3 and Fluval 105
-Two heaters that came with the Rena tank
-Original 4 bar lighting Rena lighting system which is very erratic/dodgy and needs replacing
My thinking was:
-Get another filter to replace the Fluval 105 - perhaps another Rena XP -and run two Renas filters on tank- I really like the Rena filters and use one on a Malawi set-up I've got as well
-Rena Smart Heater -perhaps get two small ones as opposed to a 300w to do entire tank
-Replace lighting with Arcadia T8 luminiare
Does this make sense and should I be considering anything else? Also, I've been using the current XP3 filter for a few years now and its now going to mothballed for a few months. I've just stuck it in the loft but is there anything I should be doing to it to ensure the seals don't perish and/or anything I should do when I look to use it again?
