Shocked With Pets At Home

I went into my local pets at home yesterday, just out of curiosity as I was nearby and didn't know of they stocked aquarium supplies and fish and sadly they do. Of all the tanks there, not one had a lighting unit over it, they were flush into the wall and you could barely see the fish by just the shop lighting, whereas my local maidenhead aquatics has their tanks staggered and open so light can get into all the tanks and the larger tanks all have their own lighting. Also five of the tanks had dead fish in them and when I raised this to the member of staff all I got was a grunt in return.

Has anyone else had this experience of this chain shops, or is it a one off?. I for one will not be using them for anything to do with my tank.

personally, i don't know where all these great fish shops exist. they're like myths in my mind. all the chain stores around me (petco, petsmart) are pretty terrible, but the independently owned shops are even worse.

My really local private store is horrible, I would buy from Walmart first. But my reasons have to do with more then just fish. I use fish stores about 40 minuet drive away, which is why I am rarely in fish shops. Anyway very few shops are perfect. There are going to be dead fish in all shops its just a fact of life. It comes down to how many and how many tanks there are. I use shops that have close to 100 tanks if not more. These places heat the entire store to like 76-78 degrees. They also get VERY busy on the weekends and during these times dead fish are uncommon. For the most part though they do well caring after all those tanks. What I find kinda amusing though is the 2" area between the back of the tanks and the wall. So many "fish chips" back there lol.

All P@H's are like that.

in short, UTTER rubbish, P@H are no worse than most other LFS. the last couple (its getting boring) of threads on this firm, ended with a positive reaction to the chain. more than one started with a premis based, on the OP's lack on knowledge.
lets face it, posts in this thread, prove your statement is wrong. even with the help of you "FRIEND"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ????

Honestly, if you don't like the place, stop going or buying there. dont winge, its pointless.

I don't buy fish from there, I buy other supplies. I was just saying that basically every P@H I've been to, and that's about 3 or 4 of the local ones, have dead fish in nearly every tank and the staff don't know how to look after the fish. I will re word that post as I now see that there may be some P@H that are OK. I apologise if I upset you. I buy my fish from an LFS that isn't quite as close as pet's at home but has better prices and better livestock, even after delivery. No dead fish what so ever, they may have fish they are treating or that aren't for sale because they are new but they don't have dead fish.

Cheers,
Paradise<3!

Just so you all know, I have asked the moderators to remove this thread. When I placed it I only wanted to know if it was an isolated incident based on the customer service received at one local store or if it was a common occurance. I did not want it to become a argument that would hang around far longer than it should of, please let this thread die off and disappear from the forum once and for all.

This thread won't be removed, it will be locked at you request though. Again, we have learnt that all P@H are different. We have to remember P@H will get the flack as it is the 'most' used store by newb fish-keepers.

until the next P@H thread...
