hi there i'm thinking of setting up a 14.5imp gal marine nano
tank is the aquastart 500
and i was just wondering which pump would be best
hydor koralia nano 900 lph / 211gph
or the
hydor koralia 1 1500 lph / 400gph

also have a spare fluval 105 external filter that could be run for extra flow/carbon/phosphate remover.
i will be putting live rock in a few snails/hermits and maybe a fish or 2 possibly tailspot blenny and a clown goby

any advice you can give me would be great thanks

With your tank being a 14.5 imp gallons its volume would be approx 66litres. The hydor koralia nano 900lph would turn the whole volume over about 14times per hour whereas the 1500lph would turn the water over appx 23times per hour. So IMO I would go for the 900lhp one especially as you do not wish to keep any corals and will also be using the external filter for extra flow! This way you should hopefully save yourself some money. ;)

I would also add a filter sponge as a form of mechanical filteraion to the external filter along with your chemical media. I know some people will disagree with me claiming it will soon become a nitrate factory but I do not believe this will be the case if you regularly change your sponge or clean it! :)

I'd also add a skunk cleaner shrimp to you list of livestcok... but thats only me coz I really like them! :D

56 litres, same size as my nano :) i just run powerheads and live rock in mine, externals annoyed me. but if you have a spare one my fluval broke only reason i dont use one, might as well, i would put in it, polyfilter, rowaphos maybe, and activated carbon. i would also say filter floss changed every day for a while to get the water crystal :)

i forgot to add i do want to keep some soft corals mushrooms, xenia, zoa's i will be modding the lights to 2 36w power compacts and putting 2 fans in.

thanks for the replys and the help :good:
