Scallops

I'd probably take his word for it on that one. :)
i know,and i will.
its the way he types things, very harsh sometimes,we would all like to know everything about marines, but we all have to start somewhere, advise is good but it can be done in a nice way instead of rather abrupt!

its the way i talk, being soft hasnt worked for me in the past, lets people start bashing me hard.

Here's a good thread I found on another site regarding cleaning a DSB and how its used to feed the filter feeders. I've had a scallop in my tank for a few months now without a problem. I have fed it phyto in the past, but have run out at the moment and my LFS doesn't stock it.

My annoying little blue damsel is forever fanning the sand surface with his tail and kicks up crap. For this reason I placed the scallop near to an exit burrow that the damsel seems to use regularly and excavate. It seems happy enough, its not moved from where I positioned it a few weeks ago, and its always spitting waste stuff out, so I guess its feeding ok. Perhaps that little blue S.O.B. is useful for something after all.

That's an idea... my goby costantly "stirs up the crap". I credit that to the growth of my corals sans feeding.

Regarding Musho, while I haven't noticed his posts are especially aggressive, he does seem a little... "passionate" as far as several issues go. But, like the rest of us, he's a valued member of this forum and couldn't be replaced.

Just like our old friend Tiggs. :eek:sama:

Andy might remember him, but he was someone who would not just flame, but "super-flame" anyone who sounded even a little bit dumb or ignorant, although he could often give excellent and well thought advice. Navarre threatened to ban him at least once, but clearly this was not deterrance as he basically spit in his face (as much as one can spit in another's face with words posted on the internet). For a while he was the sensitive novice (me)'s nightmare and could be quite the bully at times. Then he grew up. Or maybe it was me.

Basically the only ones left from "back then" that still post often are Andy, SkiFletch and I, though Ski wasn't even into marines at that time and only posted occasionally. Were "the good old days"... when somebody posted a question and got an answer. Even if it was a little bit "harsh".

heh, yeah I was just lurking when Tiggs was around... That guy had a screw loose ;)

Anyways, on the scallop issue, by suspended organic matter I meant poop, detritus, fine parts of frozen food, even little flakes. As lynden mentioned, skimmers compete with filter feeders for food but clean up water at the same time. Its kind of a catch 22 to try and keep scallops. They need organic matter in the water to eat, but that organic water also makes the tank dirty and prone to algae outbreaks. IMO they're really only to be placed in BIG aquariums that are VERY mature and ran by experienced aquarists.
