What's it the common name for? I get the feeling it won't even be a regular common name.

I have no interest in buying this fish, just liked the look of him.

whats it look like? ive never heard of it and i think it may be mislabeled

Undoubtedly from the sounds of things.

It looked like a small pictus, except with a black spot under it's dorsal fin/overlapping the dorsal fin. That's all I remember sadly!

It sounds like a young Pimelodus ornatus

That's the one!

Does it require a huge tank? I get the feeling it would be sold without being warned of it's requirements.

EDIT

Man alive, I just checked planet catfish :|

Needs a big tank (100Gallon+) and to be in with large fish. Like most other pims it is a predatory catfish so should only be mixed with other large catfish, oddballs and large cichlids.

Ben

yes they need a 100 gallon tank but in that big of a tank you could easily fit in a group of 3. like the smaller pim pictus the ornatus likes to be kept with others but 2 will fight. 3 seems like the perfect number

BTw the asian site has some great stuff. juruense, zungaro, megalodoras (not to mention a bunch of other wierd doras), corydoras concolor, giraffe cats, fowleri, and some cool synos. i wish i had a store with all that stuff around here
