I was pretty sure that my LFS gave me a male and a female, then i decided that they were both female

but then after my unfortunate series of events i only have 1 krib, and now im not sure of the gender! the other krib looked exactly like it and were very friendly towards each other

Im pretty sure that this is a male. i am not an expert on them, but Im sure Kribensis12 will find this post (if he still comes on) and let you know for sure

it's a male, the body it more elongated and a diamond shaped tail on males

ah poo

i would have had 2 males :| at least i know now so i can get a female instead of another male!

yes def a male...get a female and u wil have a nice pair...kribs are easy to pair....
Agreed male.I had a little breeding colony of these years back, females are more stubby/plump and have shorter fins, wish I still had that little set-up now, but I had no where to give away 10+ kribs each month

ah he's a beautiful one though =] thinks he owns the tank though [well he is the only one in there right now lol]

ill buy a female next week =]

thanks guys!

Personally I wouldn't post kribs.I had a few males lock their jaws and suffocate when transporting to a friends...May be wrong but I think it is caused bythe stress/gulping air?

oh dear ok so thats a no go then really thanks cheesy feet
sorry mew mew

btw ive not heard anything yet on the p82's for you i will let you know when i find out

Kribs can be hard to sex in the FS as they tend to sell them small so not only are they not fully coloured and easy to tell the differences but they also lose what colour they have when the FS is trying to net them!! If they are mature then the males tail will be spade shaped while the females not, but again also the males tails tend to be the same as the females if not fully mature!

A couple of sure fire ways to tell is the female will be smaller and have a more 'ball' shaped tummy - males body shapes tend to be more torpedo shaped. But the best way is to look at the dorsal fin (the one that runs the length of the body on the top of the fish) In females it will be more rounded at the end and the colour that runs along the top on the fin will be transparent near the end. In males the colour runs the entire lenght of the fin and it will be slightly pointed at the end (this point will get more colourful and exaggerated as it mautres). Hope this helps.

thanks guys!

i have a question though, I added a female and he chases her =[ does this spell disaster? the 2 males were nicer to each other than this!

nah they will battle a bit to establish who's boss (she'll teach him LOL)

lol okay, shes really nice a peaceful, she wont attack anything in the tank yet he's a stroppy thing!

she also wont swim away when hes near only when he sort of charges at her...shes a weird one....

here she is =]
