Salt Comparisons

OK, some basic stats for Reef Crystals, at 35ppt, or at an SG of 1.026, having been mixed via air stone for 13 hours;

Mg 1230 - that's lower than the last mix. Last mix was 1350, so the bucket cannot be evenly mixed
Alk 13.4
Ca 450
pH 8.2

So, this part of the bucket has slightly low Mg readings, but the Alk and Ca a a fair bit higher than NSW levels...

ps Alex, i know this is very cheeky and you started this whole thing off - but is there any chance you could go on to your first post and change the title to what this thread has evolved into - Salt comparisons?

I think a salt brand comparison pin, or the addition of such a thread to the sticky listings/relm of knowlage would be quite a useful resource when we are all done

I did test AquaOne a few times, hang on, asic stats were...

Alk 14
Ca 250
Mg 1850

At 35ppt. Remember, for fair comparisons though, we all need to be using the same SG/salinity

Good point, lets start again and test our own water rather than relying on the 'what it says on the can'!

I just bought a tub of H20, little bit cheaper than most and good levels. Will let you know how it goes!

I found this online. It was taken from the Red Sea Coral Pro salt, the last salt brand I was using.

SG: 1.024

pH: 8.3
Ca: 420 ppm
Mg: 1170 ppm
kH: 8 dKH

I bought the d & D h2 ocean - must admit I am not happy with how long is takes to fully dissolve

Just to let you know, TMC pro Reef dissolves extremely quickly.
