I've heard that putting a little salt in the tank is good, but not good for some spiecies of catfish. Will my aneus(green??) corys be okay? and do they live for along time cause mine are going on 5 and some peoples live a year or so

Unless you have a brackish tank you don't need salt in your tank. Most people don't realize that salt doesn't evaporate but the water does so they add more salt every water change. Pretty soon you have a saltwater tank with freshwater fish and well everyone's dead. Not a pretty thing to have.

Yes they can live a long time. I too have a very old Emerald Green Cory. Rose

:) Hi Peachykiwi, welcome to the Friendliest Fish Forum on the Net .
Please do not put salt in with Cories they really cannot tolerate it. IMO salt should only be used in a brackish or marine tank, although a lot of peeps advocate its use.
You're cories are doing well @ 5yrs, so you must be doing things right. I have a few that are at least 7 and could last a few years yet.
Anyway welcome to the site, we all like to have a bit of fun here as well as the serious stuff. Post often and get involved with The Family, just watch out for typo's!
Have fun ;) Mac.

Welcome to the forum. As the others say your corys won't like the salt, and the way things sound your doing fine without it.

IMO I've heard that many sides of the story about salt helping fish that I'm no longer sure it suposed to do what it says ;)
