Sal's Salty Questions

Also depending upon what you plan to stock coral wise just be careful with the flame angel. Many are coral safe but the odd one can be a coral nipper. Watch it carefully in the LFS tank for a while before you buy & ask if you can return it if becomes a nipper.

Thanks, ainsy, that's good to know. Not sure about corals yet, still need to start reading up properly on them.

Is this skimmer any good? Would go in a sump as we are definitely having one now.

One thing i have learned is never skip on the skimmer  The tmc are very average, if you can afford Deltec MCE 600 is king and will last longer then the tank :good:

That's good to know then, didn't know how good those TMC ones were. Not trying to skip on it, I was just browsing the site as I have quite some points that could go towards it, but if it is no good I'll put it towards other goodies. Still need a new external for a FW tank anyway.

There are loads of TMC skimmers for sale 2nd hand on other marine forums, think people by them to get by then relaise there not up to the job. I paid £250 for the mce600 as it will hang on the back of my current tank then go into the sump when i get the bigger tank. If you 100% on the sump then the Bubble Magus NAC7 is also very good at price point :good:

Ooh, I think I have seen the bubble magus at LFS the other day and they had it for under £200. We will definitely get the sump now. But he is a chicken and he is going to let the LFS build him one. I know, waste of money, but he wants it done properly, so he can pay for it

Better a chicken than a wet carpet!

I have never used bubble magus but can highly recommend any skimmer by deltec (expensive...but you get what you pay for!)

I'm back with more salty questions. As you have probably seen we are not going to make the 4fter into a marine tank. I'm gutted, but I don't have my husband's support and I wouldn't do it on my own.

Compromise was to have a nano marine. I know, much more difficult, but I will be strict with myself and do all I can to keep it going.

Got myself a 45 litre tank yesterday for a bargain with lovely rounded edges. Great for viewing!

Thinking about 5kg live rock, is that ok?

Now, what can I keep? If it is an option, would a pair of clowns and some dwarf seahorses be ok? Or a pair of clowns with something like a blenny? Any suggestions welcome. Might set it up asap, but need to speak to a fishkeeper friend first and see if he can look after it while we are on holiday in August. Otherwise I'll wait until after the holiday.

And more questions - It's a bare tank, only with heater. Is this any good? http://www.arkpetsonline.co.uk/aquaclear-powerhead-70-p-884.html?page=2 What light is ok? There is some inbuilt in the lid which seems quite bright (need to check what it is). Not keeping any fancy corals. Anything else I need?

5kg sounds pretty decent. i would say 2 clowns would be pushing it, a lot. A boyu light would be good, cheap and cheerful :)

One of my LFS has two clowns in a 36l tank, so I was hoping I would be able too. They are thriving there, have been there for a while.

Just looked into those lights, will get one. Cheep and cheerful!

Nope, really they should be in at least a 20g for them to really thrive. I've seen some in as low as a 14g, but 36l is just too small, IMO. A single clown would be ok, but not a pair.
