I got a really bad infestation of hair algae after I got some algae pellets to try with my mollies. They didn't touch the pellets but algae started growing everywhere. I got four ottocinclus and they cleaned all the algae out of the tank in a couple weeks.
Algae pellets, tablets, flakes etc should not cause algae in your tank as it is not living, unless you put too much in and left it to rot?

hi m8, well i live just down the road and have said same prob,so first i added 4 otto(do a nice job cleaning the glass, look cute, but dont touch hair algae)
Next tryed heavy planting (just give more things for algea to grow on ,and tank looks like a jungle)
the algea loves my lilaeopsis and java fern.
Sounds like you've not found an answer "neighbour"?

They are available at trimar. I would recommend at least 4 to keep them happy. They have them for £1.20 each or 5 for £5 there.

HTH
But they charge £10 delivery, that's £15 for 5 fish that probably won't do the job. Ottos seem to get a mixed name and my angels will probably eat any shrimps I put in there.

Looks like I'll just have to try and take it off by hand?

My ghost shrimps dont seem to eat algae, The bamboo/wood shrimp I have seem to munch on the stuff! :D
Thanks, but I think I have bigger and more aggressive fish that you do. I don't think shrimps would survive my angels or 6" catfish!

I suppose. I used them today to order 6 peppered cories and a weatherkoach even thought I could get them at my lfs because it worked it cheaper to do that even including £10 delivery!!

Maybe clean it by hand for now until you come to get more fish anyway. I think they are too big for angels to eat.

Maybe, but I've not seen my CAE for 3 weeks now and I reckon my network catfish had a good little feast there.

I was thinking of getting rid of the catfish anyway as it keeps eating all the angel fish eggs. Pitty though, it's a stunning fish...
