Saw this today on Ebay... made me sick, as the seller obviously does not know what he is selling.

"Q: Is the fish going to out grow this tank? answered on: 05-Sep-04
A: THE FISH WILL NOT GROW ANYMORE UNLESS HE WAS PUT INTO A BIGGER TANK."

Q: If you raise a baby in a bottle, will it out grow the bottle?

I can't believe he wouldn't sell the fish to that person who offered. Would have been an ideal home for the poor thing - now it's gonna be stuck in that cube until it dies a miserable death. :( :(

Thats a real shame. RTC's a beautiful fish, and to keep one in that tank is wrong. However, the guy who emailed him should just buy the lot, and then sell the small tank when he gets it. could probably save some money that way!!

Aaaaaah

there is a RTC at my local public aquarium and it's about 4' long by 10" wide...that tank's jsut wrong.

aaahhhh some more :(

My LFS has one aswell, I think it's like a 5ft tank, the fish is about 2' long.

Very beutiful fish....if only...

I think LFS's should not be allowed to sell such fish unless the purchaser can provide proof of having the at the minimum size of tank to home such a potentially large fish.

If you lived in a block of flats, you wouldn't buy a pet donkey to keep at home.

May be some form of licensing or certificate to prove what size of tank(s) you have?

What do you guys reckon?

It's only too common that you here of RTC's, TSN's, Pangasius and even common plecs having no home to go to because they have outgrown them. Yet nearly all LFS's sell common plecs to newbies and anyone who will buy them. It's wrong.

If anyone out there is looking at getting a red tail, ours is 5" long and is currently in a 7ft x 2ft x 2ft tank.
Within 3 months this will be upgraded to a 8 x 3 x 2, and eventually he will need a tank ( with the other cats we have) minimum of 12ft x 5ft x 4ft!!!
It has just cost us an extra £3000 above the normal price of a concrete floor to have it strong enough and suitable to take a tank that size and weight.

That is before you consider the price of the tank itself. A beautiful fish all the same but very very specialist and i agree that some form of legislation or certification should be in place for people to own one of these. Unless a very specialist shop, such as Wharf Aquatics which advise on all of the large fish, the best thing to do, is to openly tell the fish stores your opinion on them selling these fish. Having no consideration for the fish. It is only by people action that anything will get done, if people refuse to deal with these shops they will soon get the message.

It would be hard to do that as people would start producing fakes!!

They would have to be like cat and dog rehoming services and go and VAT the home/ aquarium to make sure it's up to standards.

I agree shops to do more to home the fish to the ight places, although if the LFS asked every customer about what tank they have for there fish they would probable lose alot of customers over it.
