Rowa Phos And Salt

but i dont have anthing else to put in there.. should i just chuck an ugly rock and some carbon in? then the phos remover?
someone suggested that and i cant remember who,sorry..

Ugly rock, ugly rock  surely you mean lovely live rock creeping with life

Yes bung some rock rubble in there, carbon (some people run carbon if they are going to have a mixture of soft corals and hard, i however do not) and the all important phosphate remover like rowa (don't buy a cheap one)

Oh just thought, you might mean a carbon sponge - it's activated carbon you want if you are taking this route :good:

If no rubble or l/r yet..simply run the filter with just rowa in a bag , or in an old tight....this will give you increased flow and will stop any biological filtration from the sponges...
For the rowa, simply bag it up and drop it in....about 4 or 5 heaped tablespoons should be enough...don't rinse it first , simply straight in. May want to add a little filter floss for a few days at start each time you replace it as it releases a lot of red/brown dust into the water...filter wool will trap this before entering the tank.

 sorry seffie.. what i meant was....a less attractive one :D - and i have a few

ok im just going get the rowa phos in,and have a load of floss too, oh and yes i have active carbon so ill add that :)

my brain hasnt been stretched this far in a while :/ its really scaring the life out of me  - my Martina Cole and Mandasue Heller books have gone from the side of the bed and have been replaced with a pile of marine aquaria books...

right anyway im away to do that :)

ok so swapped the filter yesterday i added

peice of live rock
5 tablespoons of Rowa phos to a bag and added it
bag of active carbon

test results this morning are
ammonia -0.25 (was this before water change too)
nitrite-0
nitrate-10
PH-8
phosphates -0.25 ( i thought these may have been 0 by now- need to test tap water i think)
temp is 75
i did a 2 salty bucket water change last night ...SG now raised to 1.021

what are your thoughts?

Getting there Shelagh, wont be long before you see physical improvements :good: when you top-up, top-up with salty water instead of just ro, that way your sg will slowly rise and not cause osmotic shock to anything
