just been looking on ebay as my local MHA didnt have any . i have found 250ML for £18 in p&P is this ok? also how often would i need to change it? my tank is 180L
also need some more salt.. which one?MHA are selling 22kg of Red sea pro for £45, but is that for RO water only? i used decolrinated tap water
or ebay are selling instant ocean at 25kg for £48,37... which is the best for me? - need to do some water changes to get the nitrates down :good:
thanks in advance.

Shelagh you have a couple of corals, so you want to be using RO water not dechlor tap water.
Also, try and get your salt level at 1.026 as corals thrive at this, whats your salt level at the moment?
I believe the Rowaphos need changing around every 6 months.
I need to change mine soon in the next couple of weeks, and I dont even know where seffie has them hide in the tank, as I have never saw them lol.

rowaphos will need changing every few weeks with tap water

What do you mean changing with tap water jack?

YF
most tap water contains elevated phosphate levels and rowaphos claim to remove 3ppm although i dont believe that.

with elevated phosphate levels every time you do a water change with tap water your adding more phosphate to the tank, so the rowaphos have to remove more phosphate so they become exhausted quicker

Oh I get it now.
So am I right in thinking if you use RO water, its every few months?

was going to use RO water, but as i only got a few litres of old water i needed to fill it up, dunno if there would be any point is topping up with RO now would there? i could do a water change i spose with it, but dont even know if that will beneift the tank ..as its full with tap water i mean.or it would need a full change over :/
SG is 1.020 i intend topping this up to 1.026 with salt mixes rather than water, ( i just mixed to the same SG as it was when i got it home)

while they are at it.. heres possibly a really stupid question, but its an idea :D
the sale of my rio 180 fell thru sooooo....

could i
fill it will RO water/salt up to 1.026 add phosphate remover, swap all equipment over and rocks etc, reaclimatise the fish/coral and go from there??

would be like starting the tank over i think but in better conditions.( may even get rid of my nitrates too )

or is this the most stupid Q ever?

that would work to some extent but your will need to use quite a lot of rowaphos to get rid of the phosphate because, rock is very porous and will take on phosphate and release it over a period of time so you will need to do that if you change over

Shelagh, thats a fine thing to do. Just make sure the salt is mixed in the r.o water and the temp is ok in the water. Move the live rock in there straight away as fast as you can try not to have it out the water for long if possible. As when its out of water thats when die off happens and ammonia etc is created. But sounds like a good thing to do shelagh. Ben done the same thing when he got a new tank.

- Shelagh, come on msn.

ah right, well thats ok ( i think) phospatte reading- 0.25-bad enough to destroy a coral tho i think, but tank is full of grassy stuff and .. it could possibly be a start on the right track to getting the tank back to healthy again?
not sure if it would help the nitatrates tho .. or just hold them up for a while :/

ok 2 mins x

Shelagh, I think you should do it tbh. That way, you can set the rocks up how you like etc. And its like starting from scratch. Worst that can happen is that you still have the nitrates problem, but atleast you have the rock how you like it etc etc.
