Week 5
1) I was really paranoid that there was damage to the waterline as it had a tight bend to get around. So the first task was to create an access hatch and check it out. Looks messy as it was freehand to avoid cutting the water and waste lines.
2) Next, the final wall want up - bit tricky as i had to box in the boiler and the window.
3) All the walls were fixed in place
4) Next task was to put up a damp proof lining on the roof - what a pain in the backside that was haha
5) Then the wiring was done
6) Finally the first trimmer beam was put up for the roof plaster board to be attached to. But i stopped here as i am going to use 2x2 or 3x2 rather than 4x2
Next week the roof trimmer beams will go up, then the partition wall, then plasterboard and sockets

Week 6
So, this weekend ( a 3 day weekend for me) was quite productive!
1) My shelving arrived so i set it up......but it didn't fit! Not my fault as they promised me it would fit the dimensions i gave them. Its getting returned and new shelving is on its way
2) All fish tanks need electricity, and the supply to the fish room was not enough. So i had to run a new 6mm twin and earth from the the fish-room-to-be through to the house, up through the rafters (no place for a 6 ft 3 person to be crawling about!) and to the fuse box
3) Next the main door to the room was framed out ready to be put in place
4) Then the plasterboard was put up and sockets wired in
5) I had to frame the end walls so there was something to attach the plasterboard and roof plasterboard to. This was done with the use of a LASER.
6) The plasterboard on the roof required trimmer beams to be put in to attach it securely to. This was then done before i ran out of wood....AGAIN!

Looking good and following this with interest. You have made good progress with the time you have had. I would suggest running the electric cable down the wall and under the ground and back up to the house. This would mean that you don't have to worry should you be carrying anything such as a ladder to catch on it at any time and it looks cleaner too.
On another note I wish I had an outside space to build on now to do something like this but think that is going to be a long way off now.

A joiner?! haha, nope! But i will take that as a compliment! I am a Structural Engineer - i sit infront of my computer all day long and normally protest "I dont do DIY". My dad is a jack of all trades when it comes to DIY, and annoyingly, Master of all as well haha! I guess i have a little of his skill passed down to me.
There was previously a power source following this path to the garage - it simply needed replaced with a larger scale version. To put it underground would mean drilling through concrete based garage, digging a trench between the two, then pullin cables up behind walls etc. Way too much work to bother with. The way it is done is through an existing hole in each wall/roof and then through the eaves of the house, down one wall into the fuse box. Simples
But if you fancy working for free, i'll give you my address and you can start digging
I am looking forward to getting the partition wall up next week so we can all see the extents of what will be the fish room!

I will be over later then (although I will charge my call out fee and hourly work rate for specialist projects(also a structural engineer))
On a serious note. I meant run it down the external of the wall and back up the other side. Only requirement would be longer cable then digging the trench and placing it in a PVC pipe to protect it in the ground.

Could have picked a black cable at least to get the power over I have to agree though, underground would have been better, why get into a big project like this and start doing small bodge jobs, you are doing great on everything else. I like the BigDug Shelving

I like the BigDug Shelving The cable is the standard grey twin and earth - its in blue water pipe to protect it and to keep it in a more rigid position. I will sprey it black later on.
Well i didnt bother with digging it into the ground for a few reasons
1) The time and effort in doing so
2) I didnt feel the need to do it as currently its elevated close to 3.5m above the ground
3) 6mm twin and earth cost me £80 for 50m! Running an additional 11m of it just to get it under ground really aint worth it
4) I am, sooner or later, building an extension on to that side of the house so it's not LONG term building i am doing just now anyway
I do, however, need to start digging for my drainage and water supply/drainage....

Watching this with great interest. ALOT of potential here and love how you are doing this on your own.
I would of had someone come and build the room for me then just sorted the fish tanks =]

I realise that this has turned into a building thread rather than a fish room thread....apologies!! I just hope you are all not disappointed when you see me put up the partition wall and end up with a relatively small fish room! haha
