Hi,

This is probably a stupid question but should ro water have nitrate in it?

I tested some before I added it and it gave a reading of 5. When I added the salt to get it to the correct salinity it went up to 10. Should this be the case as I thought it should be 0?

Thanks for any advice.

Stef.

ideally it should be zero. Can you test your TDS?
when was the unit bought? have to ever changed anything?
maybe look at a DI chamber

There should be no nitrates in RO water. Does your unit have a DI unit with it? SH

To be honest its the norm to buy water from a lfs and find Nitrate  thats why most of us buy a RO unit

Thanks for the replies.

Do seem to be having a constant battle with increasing nitrates (see thread on nitrate reactors) and falling pH at the moment.

Both seemed to be stable for some time with nitrates 0-10 and pH at 8.1-8.2 but now nitrates are 20-50 and ph 7.9-8.0

Not really sure as to the reasons why as I have not changed anything.

Thanks Ben.

I have e-mailed osmatics for some prices this evening.

I think I will invest in a unit as this will give me more control over the quality and probably pay for itself in time.

Stef.

IF you are investing in an RO/DI unit, I would tell you to go the extra distance and buy a TDS meter. All RO owners should have one. SH
