Ro Waste Water

Hi everyone.

Just a little query regarding RO water. I have ordered a 50gdp 4 stage RO unit with DI filter as I will be filling my 90 litre D & D nano this weekend (hopefully?). I also have a 120 litre tropical tank which is currently cycling (fishless since 08/07/2007), current readings are
NH3=5-6ppm (approx)
NO2= 1.6ppm (approx)

Is this ok?

My question is can I use the waste water from my RO unit to fill my tropical tank (such a waste otherwise)and if so do I need to add anything to the water?

wouldnt use the waste water in ya tanks as well all the decent stuff is filtered out.

a fun use for it tho is 2 make water bombs and throw them at small childer that have better toys then you when you were that young! (just kidding this will get you arrested)

RO water is great for soft water loving fish, but, as long as your tap water doesn't have high nitrates, the waste water will be excellent for hard water fish such as live-bearers and mbuna Malawi cichlids!!!!!

Our water is pretty crappy. I have to drain it. Just remember if you have something in your water that is..not that great, your waste water will have a concentrated amount of it (ppm per gallon) from my understanding.

Thanks guys, for all your advice. What I will do is sort my RO water out and then sort out some testing for the waste to check contaminate levels and then just take things from there.

Using waste for FW is fine. MY LFS does all his FW water changes with the RO waste.

In most units it will already have been treated with a prefilter and carbon filter before it becomes the waste water.

If I ever get some free time I will link my RO waste as a constant-auto-changer for my FW rack to save on having to water change those three tanks ever again
