I can't believe that Homer passed away over night *cries*

He was perfectly fine before I went to bed, and I woek up, looked in to see how they were doin and to feed, and he was gone :(

I don;t know how it happened.. I think it could possibly have been a bit of driftwood that had fallen over, as he was underneath it, facing towards the substrate. His stomach was black, body had gone pale, fins had doubled in colour (??) and his gills were really inflamed and deep deep red, with his head turned ras if he was stretching right up. Any ideas?
Would put my mind at rest if I knew what could have sent him away.
Thanks guys

Did he look like he was stuck under the wood? Was the wood in a different position than it had been?

he was under neath the wood yeah.. and it did look like it was in a different place to the night before but i can't be 100% sure.

For a fish to die that quickly without showing any signs of illness, it would have to have been, sudden organ failure; attack from another fish; or entrapment?

i would assume he was ok before, and that nothing attacked him, so i would guess that the wood fell and trapped him. Have you tested the water for ammonia, nitrIte etc just to see if that was ok?

he was fine the night before, was watching all four for about an hour or so, and homer was doin his usual.. playin with the cories, flaring at himself and me.. eating.. no problem. all water stats are fine. the only other things in there with him are the cories, and a couple of shrimp, and he plays with all of them so i dont think they attacked him.

Unfortunately it sounds like it was the wood then :( It doesn't take a lot to trap them to the substrate and of course they cant get to the surface to breath. As everything else is fine with the tank, there can't be many more explanations.

Really sorry about your beautiful fish, accidents happen its just one of those things. I cant even tell you what happened to my beautiful upside down catfish and a heater. I had had the fish for 6 years. Sorry again x

Im sorry to hear about homer, i feel for you as i lost one of my females in a similar way, she got stuck behind the c02 radiator in my 4ft tank while i was out one night, needless to say i removed the damned c02 thing. Its so sad when you lose a healthy fish like that x

cheers guys *sniffs* i just couldnt believe that i lost him.. he was jsut starting to get a true character for himself aswell :( i think im goin to leave the space empty for a while tho.. gona wait for a really beauty to come along, and not just pick the first one i see and take him home.

*sigh* good bye Homer. you shall stay in my heart :) x
