Rio 400 Cycle Log

Another set of double zero's looking good to start 12 hour testing on Saturday, just need double zero's for 5ppm tomorrow

So 1 week in almost and more double zeros, and as of 7am tomorrow morning 12 hour testing. I am thinking another 2 weeks and I should be ready for fish.

Current ideas for stocking is:

20 Black Bar Endlers
15-20 5-Banded Barb
20 Tetra (Rummynose or Cardinals)
20 Corys (Venezuela's, Pandas or Bronze, possibly 2 groups of 10)
3 (1M, 2F) Pearl Gourami
3 (1M, 2F) Cockatoo Cichlid
2 Apple Snails
Cherry Shrimp

Is that going to work as a stock list?

Looks good, the endlers will not shoal together unless threatend so dont realy work in a big tank. Personaly i would leave them & go with a school each of Cardinals & Rummynose Tetras. Cant advise on Gourami's, but the Apistos will look very nice.

My suggestion

20 cardinal Tetra
20 rummynose Tetra
Lots of corys as they are great little fish once they get settled.
Lots of Barbs as they are easy to look after & give lots of entertainment when the males are feeling frisky (I have cherrys).
A pair of bristlenosed cattfish, again very easy to look after. You will need a piece of bogwood for them (.I have some spare if you want it.
Big centre piece fish's
Apistogrammas
Snails & Shrimp

Duno why I am giving advice as I have my own stocking suggestion thread for that tank lol.

Thanks Tom, will have to compare tanks when they are all done. I will have a look at the bristlenosed, I am not going to be short of bogwood got about 6 pieces most pretty decent sized.

I was thinking of the Gourami's as a center piece fish.

The reason for the Endlers is I am thinking of them as a test breeding project, might get another tank for them once things with this one are settled the ones I am looking at are pure breeds as well hence they are the only live breeders I am looking at.

One other thing how close am I to capacity with all that in a 400 liter 5 foot long tank?

PS: First 12 hour test done: 0.5 - 1 ppm ammonia, 2ppm nitrite looking like good progress there

Dont sell yourself short, the Rio 400 is actualy 450 litres. :good:

Tom

Depends which one he got The rio 300 and 400 have always been 300L and 400L Juwel have just only just made them bigger to support the 350L and 450L rio's which i think are 4cm taller to account for the extra 50 L :good:

aha, I stand corrected

Another day another update, the results for the 12 hour tests have about halfved from yesterday.

Still looking for further comments on the stocking list, see the 1st post for that

First 12 hour zero for ammonia, and 12 hour Nitrite halved again, looking good

First double zeros in 12 hours, qualifying week begins now!

My plan is once the week is up to drain the tank and run the filters on the bucket for a day or two while I do the aquascaping and planting. Refill and switch filters back then add fish the next day. Is this a good idea or is there a better way?
