Riley My Mbu Is Not Well

Sharon, I agree here - I think you should take Mark up on his offer. As you may be getting false readings, you really don't know what your water quality may be like right now. If Riley goes to Mark for a few days you can make sure your water is sorted and also get those other fish sold/rehomed, then bring Riley back to a nice safe tank. I know you want him where you can see him but look at it as him going into hospital for a few days - not nice, but best for him. You must give him every chance of survival, right? I'm sure Mark will contact you immediately if he thinks Riley is going downhill so you can go and see him. You've come this far, come on, see it though!

sharon please think hard about marks offer i know it will be hard to see him go but it might be whats best for riley till you have your tank under controll and from seeing marks posts and things he will be in very good hands
regards scot :good:

That is a nice offer, Mark! I'd be concerned about the stress of the move with a very sick fish. The Ammonia is certainly not good for him, either. It's a tough call! I don't understand how the Ammonia can still be so high after all those large water changes??? Are you sure you're reading the results correctly.............

How is he tonight.

hi..riley is in a very poor state...he realy looks stressed...when he swims he just bangs into things very hard...he is breathing very heavy...he is back on his side again...i realy feel now he has gone through enough...all my other fish are being picked up the weekend...this is all so sad...i worked very hard the last week or so to end up with nothing....the tank will be sold as soon as the fish are picked up...i will not bed getting another tank...i cant go through this again...i know this is going to sound realy silly but loseing riley is like loseing one of my cats or my puppy....he is more than a fish...i have found a vet that will put him to sleep for me and they will come here to do it..its going to cost a lot of money but its the best way for him...i will never forgive myself for letting this happen....

Oh Sharon, I'm so sorry for you. What a horrible decision to have to make :( At least you can be with him when the vet puts him to sleep. I don't blame you for giving uip fish keeping, but you know you will be back someday :) All the best, and hope to see you back here soon with details of a new tank. Maybe no more mbus though eh? Pick some less stressful fish - a betta is always a good bet for lots of personality :)

thank you so much...xxxx

it's a pleasure to make the acquanintace of someone who will try so so hard to save a beloved fish. I would have been the same. Please remember that you have gone above and beyond what most people would do to save your fish, and you are smart enough to know when it is time to let go for Riley's sake. Thinking of you.... I would be in bits if it were me so I really do understand. xx

Sorry sharon bless him but he does sound in bad shape.
I had to learn the hard way as I bought a tank without knowing anything about fish before hand.
Knowledge is the key to keeping fish healthy, researching fish before you buy them.
You have tryed your best and thats all you can do at the end of the day.

Bless him its awful.
Yes I agree some fish shouldn't be sold when they need absolutely massive tanks.
Stick around and learn thats what I did and don't regret it.
Keep us all updated.

yes will deff be sticking around to learn...

Did the lfs tell you that they need massive tanks.
Also they should have on the tank the description and the information about how big they get and what size tank.
If not you could report them to the respca to stop them selling them to the public unless they are making sure the new owner can meet there needs.

they knew i had a mbu before..so thought it was ok...and when i got riley he was about 3 inches...so a 6ft tank was great at that point and they knew i was getting a bigger tank...so not realy there fault...it was mine...i cant see me getting another tank now....i wish there was a way to stop people buying mbus and just leave them in there lakes.....but i can understand why they do !!! but like i said i have learned the hard way
