Just wanted to say Hi! this looks like an active forum so looking forward to picking expert brains here!!

I had several tanks some 20 years ago; no surprise that this all feels new once more...

intending to breed Jack Dempseys; had one before and...is it OK to say you loved your little fishy friend??! Reminds me of K-K-K-K-Ken in `A Fish Called Wanda`!

Welcome back. A lot has changed in 20 years. I was away from the hobby for less than that and had a lot of learning to do, but it's been a lot of fun.

Know how you feel. I too kept fish many years ago and took it up again 3 years ago. A lot has changed what with all the new technology (filters etc) and fishless cycling. And just look at all the gorgeous aquariums....
And there were no forums back then!

If it helps, the biggest differences I found are in cycling, external rather than undergravel filters and in planted tank equipment. The basics are much the same. There are also a lot of fish you've never seen before and some old favourites missing, but that's just fashion.

thanks for the welcome, all! Yes, going for external filtering for the first time...very impressed with how quiet these things are.

Forums are indeed a novelty; good to share the hobby with other enthusiasts as none of my friends are so inclined - maybe a few converts before I'm done!
