Sold my house and couldn't bear the thought of moving my last tank (a Trigon 190) so sold it. I've always kept discus/angels and the usual tankmates (tetras, cory's etc) and decided that I missed it too much so went out and bought myself a Rio 240, chucked everything in and borrowed some mature media to get things going straight off.......

So far, its got its first live plants, a few rocks and pebbles and 10 Black Neon Tetras and 4 Bronze Cory's to keep the filter media going....

Next on the list are more plants, some more pebbles/rocks/bogwood followed up with a few more cory's, and I just can't resist them, some Discus.

Will get some pics in soon.......

Tank with its first inhabitants.....

Once I've got an external filter mature, will be chucking out the internal Juwel filter......

I was tempted to go down a different route but I can't get away from my love for Discus........ so coming soon are 2 red melons and 2 cobra snakeskins. Am ditching the angelfish now though - have always kept and bred them but no longer have room for 'peacekeeping' tanks!

Local stores haven't got much in way of plants at the moment but over the next couple of weeks it should become a fully planted tank with plenty of wood and pebbles for more of an 'au naturel' look - just really can't stand the tacky ornaments and neon coloured gravels! The gravel is just normal black dyed stuff from Pets at Home - I used to have black moon sand in my Trigon and to be honest it was much nicer looking but a nightmare to clean - this stuff is much smaller than pea-size though and gives a nice silvery black effect and reflects the light much better which is needed in Juwel tanks as the standard bulbs often don't penetrate too deeply.

Come this weekend should have more plants and wood in place and probably a few more cory's - will keep the pics coming.....

Only problem is I'm already hooked again and keep eying up spaces in the house for another tank......

more plants and some driftwood - just going to wait for the plants to grow out a bit and then move a few around..... never ending......

Well big developments whilst awaiting my discus (coming next saturday!)..... got 2 lovely spotted Raphael Catfish, and despite only being in the tank for 2 weeks, my Cory's have scattered eggs all over the place. Free fish food for a day or 2 for the other Cory's but there are still a few clusters of eggs on driftwood and around the plants.......

The raphaels will bump into and stress the discus at night, as they're nocturnal :/

aye? To be honest I normally look into fish before I get them but I was assured that whilst they are nocturnal they still hang around the bottom of the tank and won't worry my Discus....... good excuse for another tank though?

It's a good excuse for a tank, but he is talking the truth. I really don't like catfish in Discus tanks...

Honestly my ones go nuts at night, and yes they mainly hang around the bottom of the tank at night, but thats where discus sleep, on the bottom of the tank!
I keep a clown loach with my discus but he causes no problems, he's more delicate of his movements and dodges them, they just don't pay any notice...I wouldn't reccomend it though, and yes its a damn good excuse to get a new tank, they're great fish!
When I get my 270 gallon set up (had it like 7 months now  ) I'm going to get some moonlights to watch them and other nocturnal fish.

Well picked up my discus today (credit to Chen's Discus - superb quality fish and cracking value) and they are settling in great. Already looks like they have made one side of the tank their home and as usual, they aren't shy.

Have also tidied up the planting, that'll be a weekly thing as they grow out but I'm impatient..... I want my aquascaping perfect more than the stocking!

Anyway, as things stand stocking is now complete (slightly overstocked when the discus are fully grown) due to currently using the standard Juwel filter, may add a small shoal of Blue Neons once I've got an external higher volume filter running but now stands at 6 discus (2 Red Melon, 2 Blue Diamond and 2 Pigeon Blood); 10 Black Neon Tetras, 6 Bronze Corys and 2 Raphael spotted catfish (boy are they gorgeous).

Oh, and because of some concerns about the Raphael's annoying my discus at night, going to get a moonlight so I can watch what goes on after lights out. Will post pics when I can find some batteries for my cam.
