Rescue redtail catfish................

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

he was kept in a 3foot tank and lad was worried he was going to be stuck with it, he was very mis informed buy local fish

shop about the sizing etc, it has gill curl which i would like to know if theres anything i can do to help

this?
he was saying if he couldnt rehome after all lfs said NO,Even the one he brought it from, he read somewhere

you can keep the in outdoor ponds in the uk,so was going to place it in a friends pond, i felt sorry as he's been very

misinformed from who he thought he could trust, the local fish shop...so i had to take it, even if i only have it a while

didnt want to see it die...

He is a beauty which seems to have had a bit if a rough ride, i hope i can help the gill curl, ive read theat if it was

recent then with good waterchanges and filteration it could clear up....

ive read if its in the fleshy part then good water changes will cure but if the plate /bone has started curling then surgery is the only option

could we have a pic nelly (always liked these guys)

as far as rehomeing goes i dont know if he likes hem would want one or is close but i believe tikermans new tank would be great for him but dont know if hed want him so youd have to ask

 he probally wouldnt, anyhow going to see what i can do, got a few contacts to get in touch with, also will have a chat with our local aqaurium, i just couldnt stand by and watch the little blighter take a dip in a outside pond in the uk this time of year, :S

Well done for saving him and good luck with rehoming. LFS that mis sell big fish to unsuspecting beginner fishkeepers should be prosecuted under the Trade Descriptions Act!!!

Thank's...I know its such a shame, i would never and have always avoided red's at all cost's....but however this poor lad was at his witts end and being delt with by a local fish shop then a few months down line saying oh no we wont take something like that off you, um i brought it from you guys....thats harsh...so rather than see him do the only thing he thought he could i had to help....thats my problem,

very good looking rtc mate shame bout the gill curl though

wow, that gill curl looks quite bad, i hope it can be reversed somehow, isnt it caused by the fish having to swim backwards because there isnt enough room to turn around?

That iam unaware of, i shall read up indepth very soon,if i can find good write ups...but other than that he is a greedy stunner, my missus has named him "Baracus" after Sergeant Bosco Albert "ba Baracus aka MR T from the 80s series A-Team
