Apologies as I know this will have already been answered, but just trying to work out the logistics of rescaping a tank without restarting the cycling process.

The tank I am rescaping is 80x35x40cm (110 litres), and currently has 3x Rummynose tetra, 2x ember tetra & 2x sterbai Corydora (originally had much more but they were all bought 4 years ago, not just a horrible owner)

I have been cycling 60 litre fish tank for 3 weeks to temporarily move these fish in to whilst I rescape the tank.

I will wait for the tank to fully cycle before I do this, but I just had a couple of questions about logistics:
- as there aren’t many fish left, and they’re schooling fish, do people think I should take them back to my LFS when rescaping the tank rather than moving them in to temporary tank?

- if I empty my current tank, move the filter into the temporary tank, and rescape this all in the same day, does this mean I won’t have to cycle the tank again? I will be adding beneficial bacteria for first couple of weeks, and whenever I eventually add new fish, and will have lots of plants in there.

Yes you can move the fishes to your temporary tank and rescape the same day and move them back as soon as water clears up.

Do a big water change on your temporary tank and use water from your main tank to do it, then move the fish there.

Keep a part of the water of your main tank to put back at the end. rescape the tank as desired and re-introduce the fish as soon as possible. Make sure your water temperature is a close match.

If you replace the substrate, your filter will still be cycled, but you still have to keep an eye on the tank parameters for a while after migrating.

Amazing thank you. Water temperatures are the same so will make the swap the same day.

I was planning to do daily water test for first few weeks just to be sure the parameters were okay.
