Hi all,

I was advised by a helper in the old world/african chichilid forum to post for help on appropriate algae eater fish in the general forum.

I have a 90L tank with 4 x julidochromis transcriptus, 5 x Julidochromis transcriptus fry, 2 x clown loaches, 2 x black widows and 14 x silver tips (I think that's their name - it's a "dither" fish).

I need to do a mechanical clean up of my tank to get rid of algae, and plant some more bushy live plants. It was suggested that I also introduce some algae eater fish. Can somebody please suggest the sort of fish (and number of them) that would be appropriate for my tank.

Thanks.

2 fish that I keep in my tanks to keep ontop of algae are Octocinclus (otto's) and american flag fish

OK, thanks. I'll be off to the shops soon for more plants and maybe another fish or two.
Cheers.

Incase I'm not too late......but I keep bristle nosed catfish in my tank and I don't really have to do a hard clean of the glass, they are brilliant, they keep all the wood and rocks spotless aswell. The females (which I have) grow to about 3 inch (which my are at) and the males grow a little bigger to about 4 inch (so I was told).

Good luck :fun:

I have a common placo in my tanks does the job for me, someone how many u need for a tank that size :)

Common Plecos grow way too large for a 90L tank considering they can reach 2 feet in length...

Um, that's a lil distressing given that I put 3 of them in last Saturday!! They seem to be settling in fine. I wonder if they will just regulate their growth based on the environment?

no they will become stunted and suffer a painfully early death.

I suggest that you return them from whence they came and purchase something more suitable :good:

I agree with Wolf, one would be far too big for that tank let alone 3. You need to take them back to the lfs and replace them with something a lot smaller.
