What you suggest would be a good solution. I've a few non cohabital species that peeps have had prob's with in the same tank. They all got introduced round about the same time. The angel only causes prob's when I try to introduce another angel and he now and again chases some of the other fish but not that often. the rest live in harmony but all apart from the neons, rummies and harlequins have theyre own spots. usualy right next door to each other as well.
The firemouth has a go now and again when someone investigates his home and he's realatively new to the tank compared to the rest. for some reason he likes playing tag with the clown loaches.
If the tanks established and there are adequate hiding places it shouldn't be to much of a problem. usualy it's the bettas being harrassed. He should settle down after a little while.
