I have just seen my red tail shark latch onto my angel fish and "try to eat him alive" if that is the right wording, never seen anthing like it, The angel has a dent above one of his eyes that was there yesterday, that is where the RTBS was attached just now.

Until my problems with nitrate i have never had a problem with any of the fish, esp those to who have been in the tank for years. Only thing i have done different is the water changes daily to bring down nitrate (35% water change) and stopped feeding them so much, generally only every other day now,

Help please as i dont want to lose either of these. Please take a look at the picture to see if it is any thing else in your option

Thanks in advance

It is just above his eye

Quick up date, it seems the Angel fish is allowing the RTBS to do this, he seems to be "eating" some thing off the Angel, just noticed the top half of the Angel is covered in some brown/green "slime" ?

PLEASE HELP

yes it is a 55 gallon tank, both the Angel and RTBS have been in their over 2 years, i have 2 bottom feeder things dont know what they are but quite big and about 5 " long, about 10 guppies and 3 plattys, o and one red head tetra,

Its only gone stupid in the tank since the nitrate problem, they are comming down though.

This is going to seems really odd, but the angel bows its head and lets the RTBS swiw up to it, many a time i have seent he Angel chase of everything else in the tank including the RTBS

lost and confused

what is the brown stuff recently on the angel?

have a look at these ones, the shaded part of the Angel is not a shadow but the "stuff"

also has 2 pics of the other 2 big fish, think the RTBS ios becomming aggressive as the angel does not seem to want to let him do it anymore but he is trying anyway.

I have another large tank that i have had about a year, but it is not up and running, the filter is undergravel type and the gravel has NOT been washed, shall i just add some water in (treated) and put the shark in that?

dont want to lose either if possible

take a look at the pics

Hi thanks for the help on this one,

the tank its self does not have algea on it, it takes aobut 2 weeks for a "thin" layer to go on teh tank which cleans of easy, the rocks dont seem to be covered, just the angel fish .. .

grr.... dont know what ot do know the rtbs seems to be being chased away the my Angel, wont go near him now . . .what to do..??..

I have another 3 ft tank that is not up and running, although the gravel has never been washed, what is teh quickest way to get the cycle up and running?? bearing in mind i have my current tank to help

You are a top person, thanks for looking into this for me, i will take all the readings in an hour on this and post it then, I have cut back on the food over the last week as i did have high nitrate. Will post in a bit

Found your information on angles maturing very interesting, thankyou. Always saves worry in the future when you know what to expect.

okey dokey, water test resluts are as follows

PH - 7.5 (would like to bring this down to 7, this might be due to amount of water changes recentl)

Ammonia - 0.0
Nitrite - below 0.1

now for the hard one

Nitrate - between 20-40 on the chart pmm with is against a white back round (looks orange)

or

between 60-80 if you have your hand behind it. (looks red)

really hate that test.
