Things are looking on the up, nitrite is now 0, and the RTBS is swimming mid range as well that would indicate that he is not getting enough food, will get some for him today, thanks again for you help,

going to keep a closer eye on things for a few weeks then get some more clown loaches, gutted that they both died but was my own fault, only used to do a water change every 6 weeks or so, which was poor

okay hope i can help.

1st, the angel. my angel was 3 yrs old before he passed on. after about being a year old he started "growing" that brown stuff on his head. it didn't hurt him. it appeared just when he got to his full grown size. also, he developed a nice slime coat that he would sort of slough off every once in a while and regenerate. before he died, he got hole in the head (common for angels) he was living with my ruby shark. rubies and redtails are similar. soo...

2nd point, the ruby would harrass the angel only if he went to the bottom of the tank. when the angel was sloughing the slime coat the ruby would go over and eat some of the remnants of it. it looked like the angel was okay with this so i let it go. i never really thought it was a problem until the angel got sick. he developed hole in the head. now i am still not sure as to the immediate cause, but i think now, looking back on it, it could have been a combination of stress and old age. i often wonder if i had separated the angel from the ruby if he ever would have gotten the disease. needless to say i have not gotten another angel. mostly cause i only have a 30 gallon now as my largest tank, and because i still have the ruby shark. :0)

i say either separate the fish or feed the redtail some more. algae wafers work nicely and so do some frozen bloodworms. my ruby really goes for those and leaves my top and mid dwellers alone. if i slack off on the feeding of these things for a while he starts migrating to the top of the tank to annoy the ID sharks and gourami. that's how i know he is hungry.

hope this is helpful.

:/

thanks for all help,

kitties i would totaly agree with the lack of food thing as wiskas (rtbs) is in the mid waters and when i just fed them he was taking it from the top of the tank . . thus i am taking it i am not feeding him enough so i have added some cuecumber in the tank

fingers crossed
