The leopard gouramis could be big enough to eat the tetras about 5 years down the road. But by then the tetras would likely be way too big. Rummy's are a medium sized tetras and at adult size, would be too big for any leopard gourami. It's all about risk and reward though.

True about risk and reward, but if you know better to begin with, you shouldent risk. That's just my opinion though - and it should be noted I keep a 7" Synodontis with various small community fish. Still, if I had known at the beginning that this could have presented a problem and possibly result in my fish being eaten, I wouldn't have done it. Luckily, while the syno has the capability to eat his tankmates, I'm now sure enough after research and experience that that's not going to happen.

Leopard gouramis have mouths larger than they look and could take a fully grown rummy nose tetra with relative ease.
They arefar more likely than Synodontis eupterus or angel fish to eat smaller fish.
While I've heard of one being fine in a community aquarium full of neons and similar fish once...on the internet you hear more cases where the fish has devoured all it's tankmates, and in some of these cases you will find that it can tackle fish similar in size or larger than rummy nose tetras :).
Combine this with the apparent potential to be territorial, and my advice would be to leave them out :good:.

Two of my leopard gouramis are 8 inches long and can only eat medium sized rosy reds. I would never reccomend neon tetra with them however. But I have rummy noses and they are quite large> Way to large for the leopard gourami, but then I agree it really isn't worth the risk, Pic or choose one or the other.

hi guys,
thanks for the advice so far..

so i'm looking at:
1 x RTBS
1 x Angel fish (or 2 if i can find a breeding pair)
6 x Rummy nose tetras
4 x rams (was looking at blue rams)..
1 x bristle nose pleco
3 x Apistogramma agassizii (Agassiz' Dwarf Cichlid )

what about an Indian Gourami?

what order do people think i should introduce them into the tank? or doesn't it matter?

thanks
chris
