Hi all! I'm hoping someone can help me out. I was recently given a 30g (high) tank with the condition that I took the Red Tail Shark in it. So, I did, but how long can he stay in this tank? He now has 3 Tiger Barbs, an Albino Tiger Barb and a Sailfin Pleco as tank mates. Thanks for your help. :D

Also, is there such a thing as over filtration for a tank? Thanks again!

Well I have a 40g with one of those in it, he's very large but seems happy. I wouldnt add much if I were you, if you really wanted to maybe a few danios. Most here will say you're overstocked im sure but take care of the tank and I think you'll be fine.

My 40G has 2 sharks and one pleco in it, and they're about 6 years old now!

There's no such thing as over-filtration unless you are keeping fish that preffer slow movement.

Add some more tiger barbs to bring the number to 7. The color doesn't matter - they are all the same species and have the same requirements.

Stick to only one shark or shark-like fish in total as they dislike similar looking fish and are territorial. Your RTBS should be fine permanently in te 30 gallon.

The plec will out-grow it though - they get to 18"!

Thanks for your input. Question though, are you saying it is already overstocked or would be if I put more fish in? I planned on leaving it how it currently is.

I know they plec will outgrow it. He's another we "rescued" from someone else. LOL In about 2 months we are getting a 55g and he'll be moved to there and whatever bigger tanks we get after that.
 Thanks!

Your tank is not over stocked and fish choice seems fine, you could probably add another 2-3 barbs to spread their aggression round.
