Red Slime Algea?

Hi again. I am still having quite a problem with this slime. :shout: It seems to be getting worse everyday and I am sucking it out almost every ther day. I have been looking at pictures and trying to do research about it. When I turn off the power heads to feed the fish it gets all stingy and lots of bubble form on it. Then when I turn the power heads back on the bubble go away and the water is completely filled with little thousands of little stands of it blowing around. Could this be DINOFLAGELLATES??? :shout: If so, how do I get rid of it? I really am hoping that this is only cyno.

PLease help!!
Hi, it's the newbie again(meaning me of course)

I've read that it's better to find the cause than just removing it. How about adding a little more to the cuc?

I just went to the lfs and purchased a product called Red Slime Control by Blue Life. It says that it is reef safe. Can anyone else verify if these pics might be dinoflagellants?

Not dinoflagellates, definitely cyanobacteria. Chin up, you'll get through this :)

Thanks Ski. Let’s hope that this treatment works. I really don't like putting chemicals into my tank but it was really getting bad and we have company coming this weekend to see the tank. So, just this once can't hurt. The guy at the lfs seemed to think that it is a pretty safe product and lots of people with very elaborate coral tanks have used them. So.... I will keep you all posted on the effectiveness of the product.

Thanks.

Oh my God!!!! :hyper: It is working! My tank has significantly cleared up of the slime since yesturday. In the past, when I syphone the slime out, it would be back even worse afterwards. Now, I syphoned it out tonight and the tank is almost 100% clear of any slime. All the nice purple coraleane algae is all exposed, bright LR and white sand. I can't explane to you all how excited I am about this/ :hyper: That algae was awfull. Thanks for all the help guys. I will keep you posted with some new pics of the cleaned up tank when it is fineshed.

Great! That's awesome news!! I'm a little nervous about jumping into saltwater, but am also excited at the same time. I'm nervous about stuff like that(what happened to you) happening

However, I can't wait to get started.

I look forward to seeing pics of your tank :snap:

I actually am a little worried still. For some reason the slime is starting to grow aggressively again. It has now been 48 hours since I treated the tank. Should there still be slime growth occurring? I am starting to wig out here...
