Guys,

My Red Sea Skimmer has been running now for over 3 - 4 weeks and seems to be collecting the coffee colour skimmate just fine. My only problem is the bubbles created within the tank that seems to form a mat of bubbles across the surface. I have adjusted the settings on the skimmer and reduced the water flow, but still the bubbles continue to form. Is this something to do with the skimmer? or have I just got the settings wrong. The system itself sits neatly around the back of the tank with the outlet flow just touching the surface of the water. Should I be looking at perhaps having the water level a bit lower than the outlet, so to allow more of a "waterfall" effect?

Thanks

Anyway we can get pics chris? And what model of red sea skimmer do you have, there are a few that come to mind

Pics will not be a problem i hope :)

Seems to have settled down after speaking with the local LFS, they advised me to turn it to the lowest setting for a while and wait. Also have the power head offering some movement too.

Here you go Ski. Any tips advice etc as always would be very much appreciated. The Skimmer is the standard Red Sea skimmer.

Sorry not qualified on the subject of skimmers but could not help noticing that you have 2 different species of clowns? I thought that was supposed to be an absolute no?

Your water surface looks very still, I say you should increase the surface agitation.

Nice tank, what size is it? It looks big. :)

Hi Nim,

When i bought them the LFS said there would be no problem as the 3 of them were in their tanks from the start. They get on brilliantly.

Afternoon Tyler :)

Yup surface is a bit still so have another powerhead ordered and will soon be installed.

The tank is 130 Litres, around 24 US gallons i think ?

It's about 34g using TFF's handy calculator.

If the two percula/occelaris clowns start to breed they may get belligerent towards the other (What is it? I can't seem to identify it.) clown.

The way you stacked your rock makes it look much bigger, I may just steal that effect when I start my 29g. :shifty:

Can confirm the third clown is a "tomato" clown, if that helps any?

Stacked the rock to add height if anything, i wanted to ensure there were gaps and holes for the fish to hide. Also tried to creat "shelving" with a view to pehrpas populating coral, polops etc in the distant and I mean distant future.

Tank looks great Chris, too bad I can't see the skimmer behind all that rock and background ;) Do you have the Red Sea Berlin, or the Red Sea Prism skimmer? Those are the two most common...

Hiyah Ski

Sorry, i shall take some more detailed pics shortly. Just returned from a short week break in Cypurs, lap the sun etc.

Have to admit, that most of my direction and adivce has come from this forum if not you.. So consider taking further pics an absolute pleausre.

Speak soon to all.

Red Sea Prism skimmer yup most definitely, just checked.

Had a bit of a torrid time with it at first, but after speaking with a guy in Australia, he gave me a couple of tips that have settled it down nicely. Also whilst mentioning the same problems at my LFS a guy said he had one and had the same problems. He also mentioned raising the whole skimmer up higher and getting as wide a breather tube as possible. Nuff said, and now after a bit of playing about and reducing the water flow quite considerably, the prism skimmer is working brilliantly.
