Need one that will not grow bigger than 15cms and preferably quite active and not too expensive. I love plecs but I dont have the space to house the big ones so I really want a wee one to become my centre-piece.

Cheers guys

hi i could not have a large one and they recommended a bn plec (bristlenose plec)
and they should get lively as they settle in

bristlenose plecs are great little plecs . max out around 6 inchches .

Could you post your stocking?

Stocking at the moment is 5 x Rosy tetras, 2 x Botia Striatas 4 x Cories.

Just upgraded to larger tank so I have a small stocking at the moment.
I would recommend a Flash Pleco. They have stuning colours and are one of the cheaper plecos. Also Peckoltia vittata is another nice species

It would be a really good idea to up the numbers of the botia to 6 and the corys to 6 as they all prefer to be in larger groups :good:

The bn pleco`s don`t get too big and are pretty lively and active during the daytime as well as at night. planetcatfish would probably be a great place to find profiles on lots of different plecos ;)

Thanks all I'm gonna get a starlight BN tomorrow £3 bargain!!

This is the L183 pleco, http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=221 ...

L183s have a really bad success record in anything but soft water, so unless you have soft water, they would be a bad choice.

However, if you live in a hard water area, I may have positive news: "Vickiandkev" were advertising tank bred L183s not so long ago, raised in moderately hard London tap water. They may have a new batch available, check the classified section and/or send them a PM, they are very approachable and have great history of keepiong and breeding catfish (not to mention an 8-foot long self built tank for 30+ Clown Loaches).

Starlight Pleco doesn't necessarily mean L183. L182 is a different species and it is the Starlight Pleco.

L183 is a rarer, more desirable and much smaller pleco than the L183. It is often sold as the 'White-Seam Starlight Pleco' rather than just Starlight pleco (L182)

moderately hard London tap water
Yeah...London water...the cool water! :flex: ^_^ :yahoo:

And I used to keep Ancistrus sp. `Rio Ucayali` which is also sold as "starlight" ;)
