Recently Purchased Tank

I have resently perchesed a 125 gl (uk Gallon) tank when I perchesed it. It came with these fish

ONE PAIR OF KRIBS (Laid eggs last night) Male 3" Female 2"
ONE PAIR OF KEYHOLE CICHLIDS Male & female 2"
ONE PAIR OF SEVERUMS Male & Female 2"
ONE KISSING GOURAMI 4"
6 CONGO TETRAS 1.5"
ONE PLECO 14"

Going to get rid of the congo tetras and the kissing gourami cos i want an all cichlid tank. When the cichlids are fully growen will there be any problems with this set up and will I be able to add some more fish before they grow and astablish there teratories if so what would you suggest.

The best rule of thumb for fish is 1 inch of the expected adult size per gallon of water, if the fish are heavy waste producers then that number will be significantly lower.
As I am not sure of the sizes your fish will get I am not real sure. I do want to say that if you are planning on breeding them then you need to keep numbers low so you can have a greater success

Severum - Max size up to about 9 inches
Keyholes & Kribs - Max size up to about 4 inches

Sounds nice. Yep, take the Gourami & Tetra's to your LFS (swap for store credit) or donate to a friends tank. The only other advice I would give is too make sure you have a few hidey holes for each species to establish a territory / relax in.

Apart from that I am just jealous, I would love the chance to get a 125g tank. Nice one, congrats, enjoy...

Don't know severums or keyholes, but I do know that kribs are happier if their hidey hole is not in the main area of the tank. They also like something with a reasonably small entrance. I orignally gave mine one of those half jug ornaments which had quite a wide mouth and happened to be in the area where food was released. They didn't spawn there at all.

I then put in a proper terracotta spawning cave which has a one inch diameter entrance hole and I made sure it was at the opposite end of the tank. About three weeks later I have now got a load of krib fry swimming around with mummy krib.

there are plenty of hidiy, holes two flower pots and lots of caves, made by stacking slate up at the back of the tank in one corner and lots of vegitation along the back and sides of the tank, two big shells in the middle of the tank, my kribs have laid egg in them,

One thing we have found with having common plecs in our Cichlid tanks is they are huge waste producers (they constantly swim around with long stringers hanging off them) . If you plan to keep the plec in there make sure you flush out any caves or hidey holes well when doing a cleaning . Also because they have gotten a taste for the frozen and dried foods that we feed our Cichlids they will no longer eat algae, so if the pleck is in there to help control algae build up keep that in mind.
