Hello, fellow fish keepers!
I want to share my recent fish acquisitions with the community. Back in 2013, I first got into discus fish, but I never ventured beyond my local fish store. I'm sure many of you can relate to my initial trepidation towards ordering online. In fact, the very notion of shipping an animal through the mail was enough to send shivers down my spine.
Fast forward to March 2021. A friend in my local fish club informed me during one of our club meetings that he had purchased discus from a place called discus.com, an online discus fish store. He showed me photos of the fish he received, and I was blown away. I couldn't believe the sheer vibrancy and full color spectrum of his fish. He had white discus, yellows, reds, blues. Spotted discus, striped ones, monotone colored, checked patterned. I literally could not believe my eyes. I had never seen anything like this before, and the fish my friend received completely surpassed anything my local fish store had to offer.
In April of this year, while the world was still in lockdown due to COVID-19, I finally decided to take the plunge and try some online discus for myself. We ended up going with a bare-bottom setup for the ease of cleaning up uneaten food and more efficient water changes. I picked out a batch of 10 5" discus with my girlfriend. In fact, we made it an evening activity to sit in front of the computer together and pick out the fish we wanted for our aquarium. We decided to go with a bare-bottom setup for the ease of cleaning up uneaten food and more efficient water changes. We ended up with the following selection of fish:
1x Classic Blue Diamond
2x Red Eagle (Wide-pattern)
1x San Merah Discus
1x Snow White
1x Red Snakeskin Discus
1x Ocean Green Discus
1x Yellow Lollipop
1x White Butterfly
1x Albino Millennium Gold
The fish arrived well packaged aside from some minor leaks in the bags I attributed to inept UPS drivers. After acclimating them, they started eating within a day. After a week, their appetites really started picking up, and I began feeding them up to 5 times a day! In fact, feeding my discus has become one of my favorite daily activities. The good thing about ordering from discus.com is the fact that they also sell food and medications in case my fish get sick. They have made it really convenient as a fish keeper to have all these useful products available for purchase one a single website. As a customer, I could not be happier with my experience, and I believe my photos speak for themselves.
Needless to say, these guys have been great COVID companions, and my initial fear of purchasing discus fish online has disappeared. I wanted to give a big shoutout to this community for the wealth of knowledge this forum offers, the friendships I have made with other members, and words of encouragement I have received over the past few months.
