Reccomend Any Pets?

OK, so I think a bird is what I'll look into first. In summary atm, I'm looking into-
Lovebirds
Cockatiels
Budgies
Canaries

Although canaries not as much. Are there any good websites for these types? I've looked before but as I said earlier, nowhere I've found is very specific -_-

EDIT- I found a firly good site, these are the cage guidelines. Obviously I'd go slightly larger on the given sizes, but are these about right?

Budgies - Parakeets

Budgies also known commonly as parakeets are clowns and love to climb all over their cages. It is not unusual to find your little budgie hanging upside down from the top of the cage. The best size cage would be 24"L X 16"W X 20"H. Again, more than one bird means a larger cage.

Cockatiels, Love Birds, Small Parakeets

These small parrots like to play in their cage, but are not as active as the smaller birds. Love Birds and small parakeets can be fine in an 18"L X 18"W X 18"H cage. A cockatiel will need a higher cage because they have a longer body from beak to end of tail - at least 24"H.

EDIT2- After doing some reading, I think I like the sound of cockatiels best. While I'm not sure how accurate these sites are, my general impression so far is that lovebirds are harder to tame and are noisier and destructiver (hmm, is that a word?) than some other birds, but cockatiels are more easily tamed and are generally quieter and friendlier. So as a theory setup, would a 24'' cubed cage be a good size for a cockatiel?

i think a 24 inch cube would be fine :) have you checked out the tailfeathers community? there you can get care info and advice from very nice people. they will also answer any specific questions you have as with birds - there is a lot of conflicting information out there on the web.

if you get a tiel you have to PROMISE to post pics! :D

heres a good online shop for all parrots, so you can stock up if you plan to get one, i buy most of my stuff from here. they have some lovely tiel cages.

If I get one (have to get parent approval, althoug shouldn't a much of a problem), of couse I'll post pictures :) OOI, what sort of price would I be looking at for a fairly standarg cage? Theres a massive petshop not too far away that has everything really cheap, but I'd best start finding out how much a basic cage would be. And how much generally are cockatiels?

i think tiels in shops go for around £25. if you find one in adtrader they can go for less. membership at birdline UK costs £10 (i think) and if you are a member you can offer to adopt a homeless tiel.

budgie cages cost around £50 for a decent sized one so i would have thought tiel cgaes would be in the region of £60 - £120 depending on the size, quality and type of metal the cage is made from. a cheaper cage would be fine but you would have to add on the price of a play stand/ perches for outside the cage too. good quality manzanita/java/rope perches go from £8 upwards so you will have to also allow for those costs. (not to mention toys) :D

Thanks for all the info  Luckilly I should be getting paid within a few weeks, and I think its being upped to £35 ish :hyper: And the car needs a good wash... I need to go to Pets At Home anyway, I'll see what cages they do although I doubt I'll buy from there because its expensive.

pets at home actually are quite good value for bird accessories and cages. cages available online usually are at the higher end of the price range.

if there is an independant pet shop local to you it would be well worth looking around for a better deal though. if not then try ebay.

good luck getting parent approval and have fun birdie shopping ;)

Pets at Home (the one near me at least!) do a 'cockatiel starter kit' for £40 which is a cage, food bowl things, food i think, perches and some toys which i think is really good :)

Oooh, and you often get cages with the Birdline birds ;) If you'd have said a couple of months ago i could have given you a really tame budgie and cockatiel complete with cage! Or a VERY tame senegal with cage.. Or an African grey with cage??

But i have no more birdline birds here needing homes now :p

Went to Pets At Home earlier, although they didn't have much. Well, the do, but the cages aren't very wide -_- Most I saw were 18" max, and I'd like a bit bigger than that. Although they did have some OK ones, unfourtunately most didn't have prices on, but I'd guess in the region of £50. They didn't have the kit with a cage, they only had the kit that comes with a cage. Cockatiels there are £30, but look older than I'd like and quite skittish. Although, in the freeads there's a cockatiel cage with sand paper and some other stuff for £40.... Once I get the cash up together I'll look into it.
