Where can I find these? Everywhere I look if it's larger than 100L you're buying a full blown setup at half a grando.

or allpondsolutions. They have a few basic tank only deals, eg, 4ft for £300.

I got a 30gallon from amazon a month or so ago for £150 and bought a stand separately from aquaone for a similar price.

Are these really nice tanks or is there a shortage of glass in the EU? That L150 about $250 CAD?

and my southern neighbours pay about half of what I pay again

Most tanks in the UK are sold with a lid, lights, filter and heater which is why they are more expensive. There are a couple of makes which can be bought as just the tank but they still usually include the lid and lights.

This is true, and it's very annoying with nano tanks that the packaged heater and filter are almost always too big/powerful.

The included lights are often not up to much either.

And it annoys the #### out of me that the basic tanks don't come up with a top frame, even as an optional extra.

Pretty much everything is more expensive this side of the pond.

I once bought a 25-ish litre tank for a betta and the filter was so powerful the betta would have been flattened against the opposite wall. As the tank was an upgrade I kept the old filter and sold the one which came with the tank.

I bought a custom built tank as my main tank as I couldn't get the dimensions I wanted "off the peg". That was priced as tank + options including stand, lights, heater and filter so you could choose whatever you wanted from them, and other things from elsewhere if they didn't sell the heater, filter or whatever you wanted.

@seangee Did your Clearseal tank come with a lid of any sort? Years and years ago I bought a small Clearseal tank which came with a basic flimsy plastic lid but no light. It did say it was possible to add a light but back in fluorescent days I was afraid the heat from the light would melt the lid. That's the tank I upgraded to the one with over-powerful filter, which had cover glasses and a light included.

Blows my mind that it has to be an all in deal. It's as if it's assumed it's a one and done deal when it comes to fish tanks in the UK.

No - just the bare tank. I have a sheet of perpex as the cover.

That's what I did in the end until it got badly scratched.

Check out the Aquael Ranges they have their Optiset 200 for about £350 with stand, lid and lights (maybe more in some retailers).

I hope the packaged stands are better than the particle board crap they flog here ( I figured out perspex but have no idea what you guys call particle board/sawdust/ikea feedstock)
