Hello, I'm viewing a 50 gallon (240 Litre) aquarium tomorrow with ligh/heater/filter. The seller is asking £70 ($117) for the tank. Is this a good price? I'm a novice when it comes to buying tanks. Also, Is a 50 gallon tank a decent size? would you recommend a bigger tank? And one more thing, what should I look for when I check the tank out? like checking for damage ect. Any advise would be appreciated.

I think that would be a pretty good deal. I am kind of the same as you, I haven't really bought my tanks, I got a couple for free. :p

50g is a great size is $117 is a great price for a 50g with all that. I would check for cracks and big scratches, as most probably wont be visible when you fill the tank :)

Is there a way for you to test that the light/heater/ filter all work or has the tank been broken down?

Make sure you see it holding water. I think it's a good deal :)

I have a 50 gallon, added it in Feb of this year; my second tank.  LOVE this size!

I arrived to pick it up after dark, and the guy had already had a neighbor help him get it out of the cellar and on the sidewalk; so I never saw it in daylight till the next day - and THEN it was in my car.  I just went with what he said, that it held water.  IT DOES.    So I can't really say much about what to check -- look at the sealant along the inside base and corners, I guess.

Thanks for the advice guys, hopefully I'll have my second tank tomorrow :) I'll keep you guys updated if you want.

Of course! Hope it's in good condition :)

Hope this isn't too late.... Be very careful when you move it as the stress can break the seals of the silicone.

If all is well you've got yourself a real bargain there. Usually a 50g would go for £100+

£100+? I thought it would be a lot more than that actually.
