Really Hoping It's Not Gonna Happen To Me!

yeah oscar's pretty lazy though when the tank lights are out he does bugger all, so hopefully he won't be awake when the danios are asleep.

well there's still 5 danio's there this morning, and all last night oscar and polly were friends again like they used to be :)

i'm still not counting my chickens, oscar might get bored of the danio's and start on polly again, but the signs look good for now.

if the danio's are still there in a weeks time i'm going to get some more so they're not so stressed with him chasing them.

my only worry is that they'll get stressed and then develop diseases which could spread through the tank :/ but hopefully with a good number of danio's no 1 fish will get picked on and therefore stressed. and we've agreed if the situation is still like this when we move house we'll try and get Polly a seperate tank.

may have a solution, will give it time but it appears to be working

added 5 danio's to the tank, oscar is half heartedly chasing them, they're way too quick for him, and he's completely leaving polly alone....... keeping my fingers crossed for the next few weeks!!

I'd be warry of this approach as you are effectivley teaching the Oscar to be a hunter again. I have two Oscars and they have been fed a live feeder fish once, for the week after they were very aggressive to their tank mates and would constantly dart towards their tank mates with their mouths open.
Personally I would just monitor the situation and hope things die down. I also think if your tank was bigger or more conventional in shape (i.e. rectangle) this may help the fish keep a greater distance from each other and diffuse the aggression. But that is just my opinion.

Hope it works out for you.

aye, i've been monitoring the situation for the last month and have watched it gettign progressivley worse. now is the time for action really, i can't see them just sorting themselves out.

yeah i am aware it's a bit of a risky strategy..... but if it doesn't work then oscar's gonna have to be kept by himself anyway so if all I do is re-train him to be a hunter then he's in a tank with nothing to hunt, it's not gonna make any difference to anything.

yeah i've thought about the tank too, unfortunately at present there's no way we can upgrade it, there simply isn't any space for a bigger tank anywhere. we are hopefully moving relativley soon (in the next year) and i'm gonna do my best to get a 6X2X2 for them then.

thanks for your comments.

hope if works for you miss wiggles.

this proves cichlids are different tho cos hercules sees lights off as hunting time.

without fail, within 2mins after the lights go off one of my chalceus makes an almighty wack against the hood and hercules has this " it wasnt me" kinda look about him lol.

yup, when i put them in i saw one was weaker than the rest...... natural selection in your own front room.

we'll see how it goes, there's been less aggression between him and polly tonight, however the one time i've seen them fighting it was pretty bad, i had to bang the lid of the tank to scare them and separate them

just keep your fingers crossed that they settle down.

everytime i think about re-homing one of them i end up in tears :-(

maybe... we'll see what happens over the weekend

and we have 0 danio's.... new home for oscar or pol then :(

If I knew you were getting drunk, I'd have come to Leeds tomorrow too ;)

I'm sorry about Polly and O, I really hoped they'd sort out their differences. Message from me to them "Oi you two, pack it in, or you're grounded!". Sorry, getting in the habit of saying that today (with my kids).

I've just got two parrots today, and am already in love with them, and giving up NoName the oscar last year was really hard - so just want to send some ((((hugs)))). :*
