I have been keeping a 30" aquarium for the last 12 months and have had some real success. Fish are thriving and my Bristle Nosed Catfish have just produced about 30 'kittens', which has made me very happy and given me a real sense of achievement.

Just got hold of a 2nd hand tank to use as a nursery and was wondering what I should do to sterilize it, to be sure that anything nasty has been well and truly destroyed.

Looking forward to sharing ideas/knowledge and furthering my hobby more.

So, a big welcome from Tootall. :kana:

WELCOME to FF.
That is an easy question.. but I don't know :) I think bleach... or was it vinager.
Anyhow there are thousands of fish fanatics in here chatting away (occasionally about fish :) )
This is pretty much the welcome room and not many people come in here... less the love to say HI.
HI

I would suggest reposting in beginer questions and or in DYI sections of the forum... general tropical chit chat would be fine as well.

YOu will get way more hits there...

Did I say WELCOME?

:hi:

You can use soap and water to clean the tank but make sure you rinse about 100 times to get out all the soap.

If it's not too dirty you can just use hot water.

If there is a white crust from the water then you can usually get that off with vinegar and then make sure to rinse very well.

Good Luck!!

Hi Tootall :D Welcome to the forum. :hi:

I don't recommend that anyone use soap or detergent on tanks or equipment. It is way too difficult to rinse off.

I've cleaned quite a few used tanks with nothing more than hot water and table salt. If there is crusted water marks, a bit of white vinegar and a plastic scrubber will do the trick. :D

Well with a start like that, I think I am going to find this forum very useful and hopefully a lot of fun.

Cheers guys 'n gals. :D
