I am wondering whether to have real or artificial plants in my aquarium as it seems expensive to buy all the lighting for real ones.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

Artificial plants because they look just as good and you don't have to trim them, buy lights for them, worry about getting a snail infestion and when you do it will be hard to stop them since they breed like every 5 seconds. So artifical and that's what I use and never had a problem.

I have real ones, not had them long but if you select the right ones it can make your tank look so nice. Artaficial plants never look the same imo but its down to personal prefference. I just bought a £15 32" grow bulb and they seem fine. Look nice too! :)

I started with real plants. I had the grow light and I brought all the special plant foods but I never had any luck, they kept dying and if they didn't dye I had something in my tank that thought they tasted nice, so in the end I gave it up and got artificial plants they don't dye. You can get plants that don't look real fake. If you get the right ones your tank can look rather nice. Every one tells me that my tank looks good and they all set up with fake plants. In the long run fake plants save you alot of money compared to real plants.

With real plants you have the joy of having this flourush. And as for the lighting? I have a 18000k aquaglow light and one of my plants is taking over a lil of the tank (it was a lil one like a month ago, now there are 4 different bases with plants growing out of it just from the one plant spreading). Also, it helps o2 i think and its just so much nicer to have a real tank with real plants u know?
