Ready For Fish :)

Had my tropical tank set up for 8 days now, 35Litres. It went cloudy on day 3 and cleared up on day 6. I added gravel yesterday and it went cloudy though today its all clear again. Thinking of buying fish on day 14 as all set up and complete but what fish to buy? How many Mollies or Platys could i have?

how did you leave it run for them 8 days? did u jus add water then let it run, or did you do a fishless cycle with ammonia?

Have a look at the beginners resource centre, what you need to do is cycle your tank, I prefer the fishless cycle as that way you'll loose no fish whilst cycling.

Its been left with the water in and ive been adding water conditioner thing and fish food to get the filter working, i havent added fish as yet but going to soon hopefully

On day 14 your tank won't be ready for fish. As said go read up about fishless cycling please.

Right, do you have a liquid test kit? You need one of these. Adding fish food to the tank does work but I've never done it before to have the experience to share with you. Hopefully someone who has can jump in on this one.

Do you have a test kit? If so it would be good to post your water readings, however 8 days with fish food means you probably are not cycled properly. Before you get fish have a read of the Fishless cycle thread as micko suggests.

If you do a proper fishless cycle before you get fish you will save yourself a lot of hassel and heartache in the long run

i would say it takes a good few weeks using the food method, maybe about 6-8 weeks, the best ideas is to use household ammonia in a bottle, easier to control the levels in the water then aswell

STOP...do not add fish till you have read the fishless cycle tag in the beginners forum....it takes weeks to cycle your filter...yup the LPS (Local Pet Shop) duped me and many other too xx trust us...we are the experts
