Ray Tank!

you can get rays that will be ok in a 6x2x2 tank for some time its just they are harder to find than the average motoro

you need to look out for scobina hystrix maybe even reteculatus

scobina 12-14inch disk should be fine in a 6x2x2

just don't do what everyone else does and get motoro thinking they will be fine in that size tank

Thanks for the reply m8, however if a fish will only be OK and not perfect then tbh for the fishes best interest id rather wait till i have a perfectly suitable tank :).

What is perfect? Do any of us fish keepers give perfect? We may have perfect water and feed correctly, but is being confined to a tank of any size we can keep in a private home actually perfect? Could this our hobby be described as perfect?
I think too strong a word and "Suitable" would be the correct term. A 6x2x2 would be suitable for any of the 3 speices of rays T1 mentions above.

Why did you even comment like this?, what was the point and what do you think you was going to achieve?, i never asked for a run down on what you thought about how a tank isnt suitable for fish fullstop, i aksed weather a ray would be suitable for the particular size tank, answer the question instead of babling on or just simpley dont answer the question.

Perfect is better than ok simple, also suitable doesnt meet my standards of fish care.... you have it correct when you say "but is being confined to a tank of any size we can keep in a private home actually perfect?"..... no it's not but whats your point?... perfect to me would be the biggest i could get which would be PERFECT to keep for life..... maybe the tank would be suitable, yes but not in my eyes PERFECTLY suitable... if someone had come and said yes the tank is fine to keep rays in and they would be perfectly happy then fair enough.... but they didnt they said ok and would be suitable. If m8 you come on here just to basically try and make trouble then please just stay away.

Excuse me, chill out, take a pill... #### time of month or something.
I dont see how what I asked was making trouble, mearly asking what PERFECT is. Pointing out perfect is not acheveable in this hobby, harsh but true. So we do our best to give the best we can.
T1 is a very experianced ray keeper and breeder as am myself, and can both say and have in posts above that a 6x2x2 is "perfectly" fine for a smaller spieces ray as mentioned above.
Sorry if you had to get narced by my comments but thats your choice

Oh sorry welcome to TFF :) pmsl... dont make your post such blunt ones and you would have got a much more warming welcome :)

Giving me the third degree on a commnet i made just isnt nessersary, if you think it is... then carry on... all you had to do was answer the question not be cocky with another comment... which you were or at least trying to be, ive kept various fish over many many moons and i know exactly how and whats involved and what 'I' deem to be as best to perfect as 'I' think it can be.

End of im bored lol..... welcome again, i am a nice person really lol :) :) :)

It wasnt blunt, or indeed cocky they were questions. If I was being cocky or blunt I wouldnt have asked questions I would have made statements. The difference being !!!! replacing ????
Im sorry it come across that way and hope it caused no offense as I was at no point meanin to critasise (spelling) you or anyone else, because if I was then I would be being hipercritical (sp) as a fish keeper myself.
Thanks and again apologys (sp)
Just to get the thread back on track, a scobina pair would do great in that size tank if you can find some.

No offence taken at all m8 lifes to short ;), ive decided that it be better me going the 6x3x2 route when i move sometime next year, to me i prefer to give that extra. but will probably look into the scobina species when i do so thanks for the suggestion :)

For now ill stick to my first love of plecs and cory's lol... i have SUITABLE tanks for these :p lol ;)

You could still go with an asian aro for the 6x2x2,
and then some nice Bichirs or cats for the bottom as a substitute for the rays

if you are referring to the asian red the you best remorgage your house to buy one lol commercially they are about £3000 trade £1250

and aquarist classified £400 for about 4" specimin with all papers to go with it , i asked him how much they where:good:

LOL, i dont like em, so no way would i pay that much.. a plec maybe but not an aro.... i dont pay for my fish, my darling sweetheart other half does lol ;)

well in that case get one anyway @ 400 grow it up for 6 month by that time it will be 9/10" then sell it on for a £1500 and then you have made the money lol :good:

they are nice fish, but if there not your thing then there not your thing. i kow exactly why you want rays though! spectacular fish!
id say try hunt down a pair or scobina ays but i aint seen any and if you did they would be really expensive. i really want leopoldi but am setting up the 6x3x2 for a pair of reticulatus then when i hve the experience, confidence and money! i will get the leopoldi.
i am going to put an asian arowana with them and really want a siamese tiger fish.
i sourced some banja red arowana for £299 at around 6" or 2 for £550,might get 2 then sell one on when they grow a bit!
there is a couple of rays that would be happy in the tank you specified so if you really want them then just wait until some are available!

Dave

the asian arowana market has crashed

not £1500 anymore even if you grow them on the bigger they are the cheaper they seam to become now

£1200 for a 6 inch chilli red £600 for a 24 inch chilli red

the days of buying fish small growing them on and making money are gone people want small fish to grow them up themselfs

Banjar reds are rubbish dont waste your money most dont even look red once they get to 10 inch

and you wont be able to keep 2 asian aros in one tank you need to start with 6-8 then hope you get a pair then sell the rest

yeah but if the difference between getting a 'rubbish' banja red and a chilli red is £600 + then i'll stick with the banja red,
id be quite happy wih one, just thought it would work out cheaper to buy 2 if someone else was after one aswel!
id be happy with just your plain old silver but as the tank im setting up is only foot lond id prefer to house a potential 2.5 foot fish to a potential 3 foot fish and thats why id prefer an asian aro, if i can find one of the fancier ones at the right price then i'll see it as a bonus!
the tank is for a pair f rays, the aro is just an addition.
