I took a group of teenagers hiking/climbing up in the mountains once. We could see lightning striking mountains in the distance, but it was far away so we didn't think much of it. Nearing the top of the bald mountain we were climbing, I happened to look at one of the girls whose hair was quite long. It was standing on end; almost looked like she had an afro. I yelled at everybody to run, and we baled down a trail down into the trees. By the time we reached the bottom a couple minutes later, lightning strikes were hitting the top. By the time we reached the road a few minutes after that, it was raining so hard we could only see about 50 yards.

We laughed about it, but wow, that could have gotten ugly.

Then there was the time Mrs. Badger and I were overtaken by a huge thunder storm just below timber line. Golf ball-sized hail, lightning blowing up trees around us, no lapse between the flash and the chest-throbbing kaboom. Scary but really pretty awesome, too. Things like that are really good experiences, once they're over and you're safe again.

That's terrifying! I'm glad you were all ok.

This is a fossil thing we found on the beach in NZ. Sorry for the bad picture quality

Texture from a fingerprint? If you've ever accidentally felt goat poop, it's soft enough to put marks on ;)
it's like 20 million year old goat poop.

and goats do mark their poop so they know if it's safe to step on. also they had fingerprint scanners back then so the goats could get inside the bunkers when the dinosaurs came.

And they say that humans were the most advanced species. We can't avoid and prevent disaster for the life of us ;)
