Gorgeous!! Congrats on your first day! What sorts of things did you do? Man, now I wish I could get a job!
By job title, I'm a sales advisor or team member, which basically means that I feed fish, advise customers, bug my manager, do a bit of dead fish scooping, and then other things related to that. I've yet to catch any fish, but I'm quickly learning. Won't be long until I'm a pro at it!
My LFS is hiring, but my mom said I have to be able to drive myself:grr:
It's crazy to me that there's so little public transport in the US. My friend from Texas said there's no buses or trains, so driving is pretty much a necessity. Were it easier to just hop on a bus or train, you could definitely go for it with all your knowledge!

PG: does the store give you a discount for things you want to buy?
I think so, yes. 10% off on the new pleco, since my dad works in the same shopping centre, so I'm assuming that it's 10% off for employees too. Which is lucky, since algae wafers aren't exactly cheap there.

Oooooo that sounds so cool!! I would be so nervous to catch fish, so afraid I’d squish them!

Yeah, there aren’t a whole lot of transportation options here. I get my permit in July, but I don’t get my license for a long time. Fortunately for me though, my parents hire me to do yard work, cleaning around the house, and projects. I am hoping they let me start mowing the lawn this summer!

Maybe.... except I have horrible social anxiety. I can’t talk on the phone, I start shaking when my parents have me checkout alone, my voice gets all high pitched when I need to talk to someone, and I don’t know how to put the way I feel into words, so people never quite understand my ideas and opinions

LUCKY!

I asked my LFS owner if they were hiring this summer, and he said “I usually don’t hire just for the summer”. ?

Same here, it helps fund my doll collecting obsession!

Trust me I'm the exact same. It's horrible. I know you'll get this from everyone else but all it takes it confidence. Sometimes you have to force yourself, but the best thing to do is not think about it and just go straight for it!

Somehow I think being locked away from people for a year in quarantine has made me a more confident person, too... Hm.

It is awful. Feels really lonely sometimes, for Sure. Yeah, that’s what everyone says. My dad says “if theres something you KNOW makes you feel uncomfortable, try to do those things more, so you get more comfortable with it“ problem is, it’s been social isolation for over a year!

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. Makes no sense, but since quarantine started I feel more and more like “yeah I can go ask the pet store employee a question” “yeah I can make a phone call and ask the person on Craigslist if that tank is available” . The social isolation has made us realize it was better to feel nervous but still see people

Me: Poison makes me uncomfortable

Your dads logic: I should try poison to make myself more comfortable?

Also me: *dies*

Ah that’s so disappointing! My LFS is massive, they claim to be the “largest in Va” (though who knows how true that is haha) and they had several jobs open up, they needed someone in the fish department and someone in the small animal department. I probably would have qualified for either, as I have experience with both small animals and fish, if it weren’t for my age. Thats so disappointing they wouldn’t hire just for the summer

They pay you for that stuff??
It depends on the job really. They don’t give us an allowance for doing chores or whatever, so they will pay us to do jobs that are above and beyond our determined responsibilities. My siblings and I each have determined chores, such as clearing and wiping the sink boards (some people call sink boards kitchen counters I think) but my parents will pay us per Hour for things like spreading mulch, digging up rocks, laying paper then spreading rocks, random outdoor projects you know? And then above and beyond cleaning things, like cleaning my parents bathroom, my mom will pay me for

Yes still got a mouse in the house. When I can be bothered, i will set the traps again and try to get it.

Why don't you ask to do some work experience there for a couple of weeks and then see if you can work there on weekends and school holidays (permanent part-time)?

I would actually like to work there “full time” but only once a week after the summer.

That would mean I would have to quit my current job however...

Well, I turn fifty in a couple weeks, and I'm doing an 18k mountain trail race to celebrate this latest trip around the sun. Went out and did the route yesterday. WHEEEEEEEEW, that was tough. I've done some races that I thought had some ruthless climbs, but nothing like this. Eleven miles, all but a half mile or so on steep, rocky, technical trails. I was digging deep the last four miles or so, and I'm not wanting to do much of anything very fast today.

But it was cool, the wild flowers are psychedelically colorful, set in vivid green meadows under snowy peaks and moody thunderclouds. I wanted to take some pictures to share with all of you, but I'm afraid I was too busy trying not to die. So you'll have to use your imaginations. ha ha
