Hi all,
I'm helping my brother set up a tank in my nephew's bedroom.
He absolutely loves it already, but there are no ornaments in there yet.

I want to buy him an airpump and some cool action figures.
The thing is, due to it being in the bedroom, the pump need to be super quiet.
What's the best to get?

Thanks

first question is, how big is the tank?  How many airstones or action figures do you plan on running off the pump?

Tank is 64litre..

Not really sure. Maybe 1 action figure and 2 small airstones

I've tried several pumps and the quietest I found was a Danner adjustable air pump.  It has two outlets and also flow can be adjusted with dial.   If you need further adjustment,   you can attach a two way gang valve to each outlet and either attach additional airlines to the gang valve or use one side of each to further adjust air flow by not hooking anything up to the one side and just using it to adjust air that goes out the other side..

All air pumps will make some noise.   But this is very quiet in my opinion. Here is a review I posted a while back and there are further excellent reviews on the amazon site.

I'm going to confuse you now.

Have a look at one of these https://www.jbl.de/?lang=en&mod=products&func=detail&id=5958 my dad has one of these on his 50 litre tank and you can barely hear it at all. He also tells me it's the best filter he's ever come across and he's been keeping fish on and off for over 40 years.

Having a proper filter gives you better options on stocking. These little filters are super easy to maintain - so easy a child could do it so it gives your nephew the chance to learn about fish keeping and get involved himself - with some adult supervision of course :)

I have a tank in my bedroom, and I used to have a filter that was somewhat loud. Obviously it bugged me for the first few nights, but then I got used to it. When I got a quieter filter it was actually hard to sleep at first, because my room was too quiet.

I've spent a few nights recently sleeping on an air bed in my living room right next to my tank. The gentle hum of my filters lulled me off to sleep like nothing else I've known before and I'm not a good sleeper

I use a Top Fin air pump, and it's pretty quiet. Sometimes, it'll vibrate against something or be in a certain spot where it'll make a lot of noise, but once adjusted it goes back to being quiet. I haven't tried any other air pumps as of yet, though.

Sorry, it wasn't the filter. It was the air pump that was loud.

The absolute quietest air pump I have ever had was a small Rena. They are not cheap but they are adjustable and quiet.
