I have 3 zebra danio's in a 20 gallon tank I was wondering what other kind of fish can I put in there with them. I'm talking about fish that you can find at your local fish store. Thanks! :D

I'm sorry this has already been discussed! Sorry about that, I'll look next time!

I set up my 20 gal. long starting with 3 zebra danios for cycling. I then added 2 gouramis as my next fish, followed by 3 cory cats. They all got along fine.

Thanks for your help both of you I was thinking of getting some gouramis. Do Cherry barbs go along well with the zebra danios?

I'm not sure about the barbs, because they swim in the same space in the tank as the danios. I think if you had enough of both species, they wouldn't bother each other, but they'd be in each other's swimming space. When I first started my tank, I kept hearing about getting fish that swim at the top, middle, & the bottom, so they don't get into each other's way, and you have more activity throughout the tank. The gouramis are usually near the top, the danios swim in the middle, and your cory cats stay on the bottom. I have a lot of activity in my tank. My danios are no longer in the tank. I replaced them with neon tetras. There are so many possibilities!

Alright thanks alot terminator I'll keep that in mind. Could you have both neon tetras and danios in the same tank I was also thinking about that. Sorry about all the questions but I'm a curious little fella. :D what kind of gourami's did you put in there with the danios????

Hi Mike777,

Terminator is right about putting in fish for top, middle and bottom. It will give you a very pleasant to look at tank.

Gouramis are a good choice for a fish to add early on. I'd suggest you look at giant gouramis, (not the one that gets hugh--there is one called that, that is the same size as all the rest), moonlight gouramis, pearl gouramis or any of the dwarf varietes. It might be best to avoid kissing gouramis (get too big) and blue or gold gouramis (some people think they're too aggressive--and some are.) Add only one pair.

Before you add any more fish, though, be sure you have test kits and that your water test are ok. Then, there are so many possibilities.............. :D

I must say it is right! You need to have fishes on top (top feeders) middle and bottom feeders.

You may put either catfish or janitor fish in the bottom.

Hi Mike777, like said before some more danios to make up a small school (6-10) would be my first choice. Cherry barbs are great little fellows and get along well with danios. Mine often swim together making a bigger school. I find my danios mainly near the top but that may just be because there are bottom dwellers in my tank too. Gouramis pretty much roam around the whole tank and are fairly peacefull if kept in pairs. Dont know about the tetras, i dont have any. A "cleanup crew is always good too, like 2-3 corys and a small pleco like a bristlenose will help keep your tank looking good.

4 panda cories and how about 2 dwarf flame gouramies? Im not a gourami person yet so there may be another name for them.

Cherries will be fine but be aware they are not true schooling fish - so a small group with one male would be best.

Gouramis are labrynth fish--air breathers--and because of this are generally considered top dwellers. :)

I had my mom check the nitrate level for absopure water from lab results it said that it was completley non-existint. What are the cleanup crew are they algae eaters? because they make me sick

Clean up crews like cories will eat all the debris and food left by the other fish in the tank. Some of the dwarf plecos will eat algae and meat so also make good clean up crews. I personally think that clean up crews and/or algae eaters are essential to the tank, you'd never do such a good job by yourself!!!

So I take it that plecs are algae eaters and they stick to the side and all that?? do Cories eat leftover food too and do they stick to the walls? and if they do is there any clean up fish that doesnt stick to the sides that you can get at your lfs? thanks for your help everybody :D
