Question

the water should be fine................so u dont have to worry because u mite get some fry with that heat

Hi I just thought I would bring this topic back up because I just bought 3 mollies yesterday and the female has been doing the same thing at the surface. she goes to the top and skims it moving her lips like she is drinking air or something, its weird..I dont have an airstone in their because of my betta but the filter does make some bubbles...should I put in an airstone??

One of my female guppies does the same thing, even tho the rest of her tankmates don't. The nearest I can tell, she seems to be chasing the bubbles on the surface.

If this tank is exclusively for your mollies you would have perfect settings right at 80 F (that is, if you are trying to breed). Most of my mollies come up to the top at times, but if your fish are staying at the top, something could be awry.

What are your tank stats (Nitrites, Nitrates, Ammonia). What type of setup do you have?

86 is ridiculously too high...lol if i had a tank at 130 degrees, doesnt mean the fish will breed more and more. ive neve gone over 83 and i dont recommend it....just my opinion

I have 6 Mollies - 3 Balloon and 3 Sailfin. Not all of them do it, but once in a while one of my Sailfins will skim the surface almost like she's slurping in water - which I know is ridiculous. She's done it since I've bought her - it's not a constant thing and she's perfectly healthy - has not exhibited any other signs of sickness.

As for the tank itself, it has a Penguin 40 Filter and a nice long bubble wall with a decent airpump. My tank isn't overstocked and water readings are all good so I don't worry about it. I think it's just her way of telling me that it's time to eat, or perhaps she's munching on some leftovers that have floated back up to the top via the bubbles / filter.

Edit: Also, I'd have to agree with everyone else, anything above 80 would be high for your tank. I generally keep my temp around 75.
