I just got a Aqua Clear 70 to run tandem with my Rena XP3. Both are spotless, but there are still very tiny particles in the water! What do I do to get rid of these!? Are the chemicals they sell any good and safe?

Put some fine filter floss in your filter.I had the same problem and it cleared within a couple of hours.

Okay this might come off as a super newb question, but what exactly is filter floss, how does it work and where does it go in the filteR?

Its the white filter that came with your xp3 it goes right at the top so its the last filter before it leaves.

Well should I maybe get a new one? I cleaned it yesterday.

Do you get these particles after turning the filter off and back on if so its bits in the pipe work and there's not much you can do about it or it maybe a algae bloom.

What do I do if it is indeed an algae bloom?

you could clean your pipes out or give them a good shake (any movement on my pipes tends to chuck out stuff, therefore do it into a net which contains some filter floss, therefore you catch all the rubbish and only the good stuff goes back in the tank :D

Hope this helps,

Dru.

What substrate do you have? Sand/gravel? If sand what type do you have.

It is just black gravel from the pet store!
