Hi
2 and a half years ago I bought queenie from tropical fish 4 you over the internet, Bloo may remember she bought one not long after me. I have ordered a male to go with her from maidenhead aquatics in blackpool, I thought she was fully grown now but when talking to the man in the shop he thinks she should grow bigger. Do you think she looks fully grown, if not they really are slow growers????

wat size is it just now??

they are exteamly slow growing fish but 3 nches isnt an unusaul size for a queen anyways but am crious as how u know its female going by colouration and odonodes (sp) looks male 2 me ??? closer pic would be better :)

I was told that females had a white belly whereas the male had some patterning on the belly, there is definately no continuation of patterning on the belly.
Have I been given wrong advice??? If I have I need to change my order with maidenhead, what angle of photograph is best to sex it??

no thats not a definet way 2 id im afraid ive had both male anf female which actuall colouration on belly changed dependant on mood lol close up side pic of head and closeup of pectorals should be ok 2 id :)

Sexing is best done with an overhead shot really...as it could just be a hairy female.

true but havin kept queens thats still not a definate way 2 ID head shape ive found alittle misleadng as 2 plumper bodies could be just a very healthy fat male lol still say from pic its male myself males tend 2 have more striking black and white lines but again IME lol

you say uve ordered 1 from maiden head at wot size will u be receving ?

It's a more definite approach than just side views of the head or the pectoral fins. A side view offers no real info and an overhead pic should be clear enough to show any odontode growth anyway. It's a case of judging based on a number of variables which allows an educated guess to be made and an overhead shot covers the most variables.

Okay where exactly on the pectorals am I looking for hair.

The colour has always been striking, sometimes it looks black on white sometimes white on black.

The one I have ordered is 3-4 "

Sorry to be a pain, but if I need to change the order, I need to do it soon!!!

tbh m8 i dont disagee in the slightest with the above shot wasnt wot i was actually getting at but from the pics shown the odontode growth on its side looks extreamly long so just wanted 2 see how long it actually was ..u said above mite just be a hairy female not really seen ths in 260's myself 134's ..168's yes but not really within 260's hence the original guess of a male as for above as i said ive never really found that fully conclusive from body shape if a female isnt mature they tend not 2 show 2 much body plumpness or female characteristics anyways so from the above view u would be looking at hairyness anyways so side view IMO is just as good but hey who cares lol :p

to the OP still would guess at it been male tho lol

:)

by looking at pics i wud agree with jenclibee as it is possibly a male and not a female. but like said need a photo from above to look at odontodes
